Farming Equipment and Methods

Description: Photograph of terrace outlet channel under construction. Channel will be widened, shaped and sodded. Vegetation will be allowed to become well-established before terrace water is emptied into it. Terraces will be constructed in the field and will empty into channel from both sides. Mr. Ray Murrell, Work Unit Conservationist, and Mr. Paul Hertzler, farm owner, examine a conservation survey map on which the location of the channel and terraces are indicated. OK-8916.

Grass, Legume and Forb Cultivation

Description: Photograph of sorghum planted for non-competitive cover in preparation for seeding to side oats grama that will be drilled in the early spring [of 1945]. Sorghum was planted after harvesting small grains. Sideoats grama will be sown with native grass seed drilled in 36 inch rows and cultivated for seed production. Seed will be made available to co-operators in the Upper Washita Soil Conservation District. OK-8933.

An erosion control dam was constructed across the draw in 1957 and in two years the land was producing crops. To date the draw has silted approximately by 5 feet, says Mr. Lucas. OK-8909

West's Egg Laying Hens
