Outdoor Classroom, Denison Grade School

Description: Photograph of Mrs. Aileen Harris' class at Denison Grade School. This group planted loblolly and slash pine, green ash, and sweetgum trees on their outdoor classroom site north and west of the school. They were assisted by Terry Baker, Oklahoma Forestry Division, and Randy Freeland, Soil Conservation Service. OK-5021-10.

Description: Handwritten title, "Harley Academy, Chickasaw Pupils 1891". Written in the margin, "Mrs. J.M. Harley". J.M. Harley is probably Joshua M. Harley. He was head of the Chickasaw Nation school which later became known as the Harley Institute. Lucretia was his wife.

Oklahoma Military Academy Football Team

Description: The photograph is entitled, "O.M.A. 1920". O.M.A. is assumed to be the Oklahoma Military Academy. The Academy opened in the fall of 1919 in Claremore, Oklahoma. The O.M.A. closed in July of 1971. The Rogers State College (now University) occupied the O.M.A. campus in 1971.

This cabinet card has Cyphers & Nelson, Traveling Photographers, Augusta, O.T. printed on the card.Augusta, Oklahoma was a town located in Woods County when the Cherokee Strip was opened to settlement. In 1907, Alfalfa County was created and included the town of Augusta.
