Greenfield Bermuda (2)

Description: Photograph of a nursery plot of Greenfield Bermuda grass planted July 1, 1955. First crop of roots was harvested and used to plant 100 acres in 1956. Fertilizer was applied to grass at the rate of 150 pounds of 10-20-10 per acre. This grass has been grazed since it was planted and it is preferred by cattle over the other types of Bermuda grass.

Description: Photograph of area which used to be covered with sage like area shown in Okila. 10, 753. Olson(left) and SCS Tech. E. S. Cordell check up on grass growth. Olson sprayed sage once with 2, 4-D four years ago, withheld grazing for year, then grazed lightly for year and has grazed moderately since. Little & big bluestem, indian, swithc, blue and sideoats grama. Texas and Prairie blue and sand paspalum came back naturally; no reseeding. and range site in excellent condition.

The seeding of Kentucky Fescue, Smooth Brome and Alfalfa mixturefor the Fall of 1957 on well-prepared seedbed at a rate of 20 pounds each of fescue and Smooth Brome, and 2 pounds alfalfa per acre. Planting to be fertilized with amonia nitrate in April, 1958, 50 pounds per acre to complee establishment. Grazing will begin in October, 1958 followed by proper management. OK-677-5.

Description: Photograph of Bermuda grass seed. The seeding and fertilizing rate was 1/2 pound hulled NK-37 Bermuda seed with 125 lbs. 10-20-10 per acre at seeding time. Seed was mixed with fertilizer and planted in shallow furrows 18 inches apart with an EZEE-Flow fertilizer spreader with “Pray” furrowing device attached. OK-894-10.

Brush was removed, pond constructed, and NK-37 Bermuda grass was seeded, fertilized and overseeded with Kobe longgrass. Floyd Ramsey, SCS aide and W.J. Description: Photograph of cattle grazing on NK-37 Bermuda grass planted on May 30, 1958. Planted in 4 inch flat furrows 16 inches apart. 2 pounds of seed per acre. 150 pounds of 10-20-10 fertilizer applied per acre at time of planting. Grass was 12 inches high 6 weeks after planting. 50 cows and 23 calves turned onto pasture on July 6, 1958. Soil Mapping name--Stidham very fine sandy loam. Badly eroded abandoned cropland. This land had been formerly cultivated and is now being planted with native bluestem grasses, using an Ezee-Flow fertilizer spreader as a planter and a rotary hoe cultivator being pulled in reverse.
