Caption: "Eight people with an $8 collection started the Mummers in 1949, and for two summers they held forth in a tent at the corner of NE 24 and Eastern. The first summer the tent was protested as a "public nuisance," but nowm entering on their campaign for a sixth winter season, Mummers have a Theater-in-the-Round of their own, and a list of 990 patron members."
