Description: Photograph of strip cropping with Lespedeza, soy beans and corn. Unterraced field. This view is to be compared with OKLA 5310, which shows a nearby field which has the same soil and is about the same slope, but which is planted in straight rows up and down the slopes and the cotton is very poor, as, in this season of very slight rainfall, what did fall was kept on the contour-farmed field, but was lost on the other. Water Conservation; Water Erosion; Flooding and Prevention

Description: Photograph of Elk City resevoir after a flood. It shows severe outting on backslope of dam. This dam overtopped its entire length before it broke. This picture gives an idea of the amount of water that was flowing over the dam before its break. This flood was caused by a six inch rain that fell in one night, three inches of which fell in 45 minutes. OK-5137.

Description: Photograph of three year-old locust trees in an abandoned badly gullied land. The farmer built the check dams in the gullies, bought the trees and planted them shortly before the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) moved into that area. The area is rapidly becoming stabilized. OK-6346.
