Description: Nighttime photo of mangled parts of a plane crash. Photograph taken for a newspaper owned by the Oklahoma Publishing Company. Caption: "Twisted metal is all that's left of crashed Navy jet." By Jim Roger -- "A $3 million military jet plane with two Navy pilots aboard crashed in a pasture two miles west of Tinker Air Force Base in southeast Oklahoma City Friday night, a few seconds after the fliers parachuted to safety. The craft did not burn. The Navy F-4's pilot and co-pilot both escaped injury. Their cross-country training flight from Oceana Naval Air Station, near Virgina Beach, Va., ended less that 10 miles shy of a 1,200-mile non-stop trip. The pilot was identified as Lt. Cmdr. Michael J. Ettel, 33, of Oceana Air Station. Neither Officer was injured, but both were given emergency check-ups at Tinker Air Force Base Hospital. The twin-engine craft was believed to have run out of fuel. Authorities said the men radioed the Tinker control tower that they were abandoning the aircraft."
