Farming Equipment and Methods

Description: Photograph of a combination seed huller, scarifier, cleaner and grader. This machine was operated at about 1200 rpm with a 3 to 5 horsepower gasoline motor and cleaned at the rate of 1000 pounds of cleaned seed per day. The loss in weight from unhulled, unscarified seed from the grain operator varied from 15% to 35% in weight where average loss was 25%. AR-D25-31.

Description: Photograph of a farm pond in Muskogee, constructed in the Spring of 1940 to supply stock water. This is the only water supply on the ranch. The pond was stocked with bass, breen, blue gill and perch according to recommendations of Homer C. Towns, Soil Conservation Service, Regional Biologist, in 1941.

Bass Caught at Land Utilization Lake

Description: Photograph of Large mouth Bass caught on artificial lure at L.U. Lake, northwest of Cheyenne, Oklahoma. Lake was stocked 2 years ago and has revealed by an examination of their scales, both the fish are under 2 years old. Bass on left weighed 2.5 lbs and the one on the right weighed 3 lbs. Both ere caught 18 months after the pond was stocked.

Description: Photograph of Camera Station IV (SW corner of NW ¼ of Shinnery Range). Observational studies of Shinnery Oak Ranges. The area is heavily infested with shinnery oak 20 to 24 inches in height with scattered bunches of little bluestem, blue grama and sand love grasses. This 40 acre plot was burned on March 24, 1944 and will be stocked with 8 steers. OK-8734-C.

Area of shinnery averaging about 20 inches in height with scattered bunches of little bluestem, blue grama and love grasses. This 40 acre plot will be moved in June, 1944. Each of the three 40 acre plots will be treated and each plot will stocked with 8 steers of equal size and quality. OK-8732.
