Description: Photograph of the Reverend Murray Kay delivering a conservation sermon every year in observance of Soil Stewardship Sunday but he practices conservation the year-round on his farm in the Round Grove Community. He is a cooperator with the Upper Leon Soil Conservation District and is a member of the Round Grove group. Reverend Kay’s great-great grandfather is in the picture’s background. He founded the Round Grove Church in 1871 (the founder’s name was Ruben Rome). TX-46, 504.

Description: Photograph of Ed Jenkins, Soil Conservation District [SCD] Co-operator [left] and J. L. Coppodge [right] inspect this 20 acre planting of sericea lespedeza to determine the stage for seed harvesting. The sericea was planted in 3 foot rows in April, 1948 for pasture. Mr. Jenkins states that the sericea has afforded excellent pasture and that his cattle have eaten it readily. TX-47-274.

Description: Photograph of the hammermilling of blue grama seed harvested with a drum type seed stripper. About 11,000 pounds of blue grama seed (uncleaned) were harvested on the H. D. Cornell ranch this fall [i.e., 1950]. Cornell will use part of the seed on his ranch to reseed denuded areas and has purchased a drill. TX-47-380.

Description: Photograph of a view of part of Mr. Leslie Harris’ 280 acres of terraced land. The strips of sorghum and wheat run from terrace to terrace. Vetch grew last year on the strips from season to season. These are channel type terraces and they empty into a an alfalfa waterway (running across the picture in the center). The sorghum will be combined leaving the stubble on the strips. See TX-47, 218 and 47, 219. TX-47-217.
