What is the Gateway?

The Gateway is a free repository of Oklahoma history materials. It primarily consists of Oklahoma newspapers from 1844 to 1923. However, the goal is to expand beyond newspapers in the future. It is maintained by the Oklahoma Historical Society and the University of North Texas Libraries' Digital Projects Unit.

What is in the Gateway?

The Gateway features digitized copies newspapers from all over Oklahoma. The goal of the initial gateway project is to make available 5 million pages of pre-1923 Oklahoma newspapers. As of yet, there is no non-newspaper content in the gateway, but this will change over time.

Can you tell me the value of an item in my collection?

Quite often we receive questions about the value of a historical item belonging to a personal collection. Unfortunately, we cannot provide appraisal information; however, we can recommend that you visit the Smithsonian Institution's Encyclopedia Smithsonian, which provides an overview on identifying and valuing collectible objects. The page includes links to several American appraisal organizations and a reference list of helpful books and magazines.
