The Collections Department is responsible for the care of over 153,000 artifacts within the museum’s collection and utilizes industry-standard collections processes and procedures to care for and maintain everything from automobiles to military armaments, textiles to movie props, artwork to our Native American collections, and more. The Collections Department is committed to its goal of representing our rich Native American history, strong educational spirit, intrepid pioneer tenacity, and the lives of ordinary citizens who call Oklahoma their home.
About OHCM Volunteers:
The Volunteer program at the Oklahoma History Center Museum (OHCM) is in constant motion tending to numerous requests for assistance with concerts, corporate events, guided tours, school field trips and classroom instruction just to mention a few. Our Volunteer base includes teachers, medical professionals, active/retired military…all walks of life and professions. There are just as many reasons for Volunteering as there are people that do Volunteer; everyone has their own.
The common thread among these generous individuals is that they are “givers.” They give their time, their energy, their knowledge, and whatever gifts they possess to contribute to the mission of the Oklahoma Historical Society: to collect, preserve and share the history of Oklahoma.
The OHCM Volunteer staff works as a team. Some have formed “forever friendships” while serving together. Getting to know each other as they perform their various duties is also accomplished by Volunteer field trips to numerous Oklahoma sites and attractions, monthly meetings, and shared meals. The bond that is formed there is carried over in providing their service to patrons that visit the Oklahoma History Center Museum.
