Chickasaw Nation's Bloomfield Academy

Description: Photograph of Bloomfield Academy school for girls near Achille in Bryan County. Chickasaw Governor Douglas Henry Johnston was a student of the academy, and served as the school superintendent from 1884 to 1897. According to information related to the photograph, "Professor Henshaw taught there 18 years," and the school burned in January 1914. Photo may have been taken by George W. Moore, Denison, Texas.
