The Hennessey Kicker was started in 1893 and was issued on Saturdays by the Bert Campbell Printing Company. Bert Campbell was listed as the publisher, while J.B. Campbell was the editor. The paper featured news from both local and world sources. By 1899 the paper claimed 610 subscribers. At the outset, the weekly measured 15 by 22 inches and featured eight pages with six columns, later on the paper grew to 18 by 24 inches with seven columns. The subscription fee was one dollar per year.
