Mr. Gaston, who has been sick in
bed for the past two months has re-
covered, and is out among the good
people, looking as fleshy as ever.
The generous heart of Ben Key
prompted him to present a nice, new
14. hat to Rev. Milsap, who has been
holding revival meetings in the city.
Harry Hood, of Lyndon, Kansas,
was in the city on the 21st. and says
that a large number of stockmen will
be here from Kansas for the conven-
tion.
W. M. Waddle, who had the mis-
fortune to lose his house by lire a short
time since, has rebuilt again and again
has a cover to shelter him from rain
and storm.
Last Monday Sam Smith was arrest-
ed, and bound over to the Action of the
grand jury, charged with breaking
into Nail's saloon Saturday night, a
week ago.
E. C. Pettyjohn was in from the
country last Friday, and went home
rejoicing in the fact that the N'mvn
would visit his house, every week, for
the next year.
George Champney, of near Gage, lias
returned from Kansas where lie sold
a farm that he had in that state, aud
will enter extensively into the stock
business here.
Gage is improving considerably; J. K.
Word is building a very nice dwelling
next to his hotel, a new meat market
has opened, and they claim they have
one of the best schools in the county.
The Stock Convention week after
next will probably be the largest gath-
ering ever held in Woodward, and
stock raisers and feeders will be pres-
ent from To as, Colorado, Kansas and
Missouri. It is probable that some
v ry large deals will be made in stock
during the week.

been no mow to cover up the range,

try to take the cattle through until

The Third Annual Session of the Oklahoma Live Stock
Association will convene at Woodward, Oklahoma, Feb. 9th and
10th, 1897. Reduced rates have been given by the A. T. & S. F.
railway to all who wish to attend.

A. Weber, proprietor of the Walnut
Street market, had a novel parade
yesterday. Following a tally-ho in
which rode Rose's band were two large
wagons of the Armour Packing com
pany, each drawn by four horses, and
gaily decorated, loaded with the twenty
(our quarters of prime Christmas beef
from the nix Herelord steers recently
bought by Mr, Weber at the stock
yards. A third wagon drawn by
single horse, carried the big bulTalo
cow that was also bought hv Mr. Web-
er for his Christmas trade.—Kansas

notice of which appeared iu our paper
last week. Mr. Jones may well feel
proud of the cattle he has raised and

One of the best dressed and best
looking men in the council is the coun-
cillor from the long-horn, short-grass
district, 1>. P. Marum. Mr. Marutn
is a native Xew Yorker, having been
born in Orange county or that state.
Ilis early inauhood was spent in the
book-keeping departments in various
iron jndustries in eastern Xew York.

Mexican Commission business, in con-
nection with the importation or ma
hnguny and the exportation to Mexico
ol general merchandise. He left New-
York City in 1882 and located iu Wyom-
ing. where he was engaged in clerical
work under the military department
until 188K. In that year he removed to
Wichita, Kas., and engaged in the
i eal estate business, being still in the
possession of mementoes of the lluslt
times in that booming city in the shape
of several very pretty plats of ground.
In 1889 he. in common with thousands
of others, became infected with the
Oklahoma fever, and was a passeuger
ou the Bist*traln which entered the
Territory at the opening. He immedi-
ately located in this city and was one
of the partners in the wholesale house
which ran under the name of the Ok-
lahama Supply Companv. In July,
1889, he established a branch of this
house at Oklahoma City, but only re-
mained in that place until the fall of
that year, when he accepted a position
at Fort Supply I. T.. as clerk in the
quartermaster department, remaining
at Fort Supply until January. 189.i.
During his staj at the latter place
he studied law and was admitted to
the bnr at Oklahoma City in 1892. He
was I'niled States commissioner at Ft.
Supply from May. 1890, until Septem-
ber, 1893. Immediately before leaving
Ft. Supply lie formed a law partner-
ship with II. B. Dale, of Tennesee,
opening an office in Woodward, his
present place of residence. In the

Billy Holton was In the city thia
morning on his way home to Wood-
ward from Hutchinson and Wichita,
where lie hud been rouuding up the
cattlemen for the Livestock conven-
tion, which meets at Woodward Feb-
ruary 9 and 10. Unusual interest is
being taken in the next meeting of
the QklaUoujn Live Stool? convention.
These conventions ure tlje ppinoiptl
events In the life of border'towus, and
arc attended by cattlemen from far
and near. They always briug together
men of great wealth aud enterprise,
and result in great good to the cattle-
jftfcing ty<|t}strv. An excellent pro-
wlien occasion demands urging or op-
liere is nothing rampant or lurid
ubout his remarks, but his language is
always terse, well-chosen and i ialit to
the point. He is now, and will con-
tinue to be. one of the powers of the
upper body of this legislative assembly.
While an ardent admirer of the la-
dies, Mr. Marum has never entered the
wedded state. He was the only one of
the legislators who uppeared at the
legislative body in full dress suit, and
it is supposed some jealous fair one,
thinking she had not received her
share of Mr. Marum's attentions, spread
the report that his wife was present
at the ball, which report, however,
