Here is a little story in illustration:
Several years ago a certain broker,
who is one of the best-known members
of the Boston Stock Exchange in
some manner incurred l.awson's en-
mity. This broker at the time was en-
gaped In selling the stock of a certain
mine, and his efforts were meeting
with considerable success, for the mine
had merit. One day the Boston papers
blazoned the fact to the world, in the
form of a hugo advertisement, that
Thomas W. I^awson had arranged a
procession "emblematic If the mineral
development of the West." and that on
a certain day and hour the procession
would march through the financial
district, and especially up State Street,
where Lawson's enemy, the broker,
had his office.
THE JACKASS PARADE
At the appointed time the streets
were thronged by spectaors, and every
window contained Its complement of
gaily dressed ladies. Up State Street
came the cavalcade, preceded by a
band. It consisted of 15 burros, tho
small, gervicable donkeys of the min-
