Johnnie Riley, a brakeman on
the Frisco, was caug.'.t between
cars Tuesday afternoon about.
4:30 and crushed so badly that
he diqjd in about 30 minutes. He
was the son of a widow who lives

and if the farmers can raise only
a reasonable crop it will have

At an early hour yesterday
morning fire destroyed the home
of T M. Dumas. One trunk and
a few things of small value was
all that was saved. This was one
of the nicest places in Madill.
We failed to learn whether it was
insured or not. Mr. Dumas is
out of town and Mrs. Dumas is
unoertain about. The supposi-
tion is that the fire was of incen-
diary origin, as Mrs. Dumas spent
the night with friends.

McKinney, Texas, spent Satur
day and Sunday in Madill visit

on the prospects for cotton in this

J, F. Armstrong of Lebanon
was in the city Wednesday.
D, R. Johnston of Kingston
Messenger, was in Madill Wed-
nesday.
Mrs. W. H. Lawrence went to
Denison Wednesday to visit her
parents.
Mrs. M. Hammond and Mrs.
Dr. Souther were Ardmore visit-
ors Tuesday.
Mrs. Mary Kelley visited
friends in Holdenville Wednesday
and Thursday.
J. M. Hoard of Denton, Texas,
is in the city this week looking
after business affairs.
Mrs. J. N. Ross, who has been
at Ardmore visiting the past few
days, returned yesterday.
Claude Whiting of Bells, Tex-
as, is in town vieiting his sister,
Mrs. D. B. Taliaferro.
Mrs. H. L. Cohen returned on
Tuesday from a six weeks visit to
her parents at Nashville, Tenn.
W. H. Lawrence went over to
Denison yesterday to join his wife
and celebrate the glorious Fourth.
J. A. Williams of Collinsville,
Texas, visited his brother, Linn
Williams and family, this week.
Mrs. W. J. Bell returned Tues-
day from a two weeks visit with
her mother ar.d friends at Bells,
Texas.
Mrs. E. P. Greenwood of Sul-
phur Springs, Texas, sister of
B. H. Minter, is visiting rela-
tives. ,
Miss Floyd Wall, who has been
visiting the family of E. T. Had-
dock, returned to her home at
Cumberland yesterday.
Miss Fay Caraway of 8herman,
who has been visiting Miss Estelle
Carter, left Wednesday morning
for Pauls Valley to visit friends,
Mrs. T. C. Rollins, Miss Winnie
Rex and Doyle left Wednesday
forenoon for a two weeks' visit to
Mrs. Rollins' parents at Moore,
Okla.
Mrs. C. F. Hart and baby, Mar-
tha Francis, left yesterday for a
two months' visit to Mr. William
Hart, father of C. F„ and family
at Flat Creek, Tenn.
Mrs, Sam Vititoe left Wednes-
day for an extended visit to Sher-
man, Pilot Point, and other
towns in North Texas. She will
spend most of her time with her
parents at Kentuckytown,
R. H. Everett left yesterday for
New Mexico. Mr. Everett ex-
pects to make his home in that
country, and handed us the^ooin
for the News to follow him, as he
wants to keep posted on Madill
affairs.
J. M. Eakins, manager of our
oil mill, Postmaster Beard, Atty |
Kennamer and Summers Hardy
went to Ardmore Wednesday to
lay before Judge Townsend a
proposition that has for its object j
the securing of Tishomingo's
court.
This movement is backed by
our commercial club and the en-1
tire town and surrounding coun-
try Numerous inducements are
offer d, among which we might
mention a court house free of
charge.
Judge Townsend informed the
committee that he could rot make
a recommendation, but would re-
fer the matter to the department
of justice at Washington, Ayhe^e
a decision would be made.
Of course Tishomingo will put
forth every effort to retain her
court, but is generally conceded
that Madill has an "even break."
Attempted Holdup.
On Wednesday night abont 3
o'clock when City Marshal Jim
Blaylock was on his way home
after his round of duty in" the
town.thecry, "hands up" came
from a man on his knees in the
shadow of the old Colby Brothers
warehouse, and wh n Blaylock
attempted to secure his gun the
command was repeated accom-
panied by a pistol shot, ths bul-
let passing through the marshal's
hat brim; the would be assassin
by this time brougt in leg service
widening the distance between
himself and his intended victim
who fired three times at him. It
is supposed the rascal intended
to relieve Blaylock, who had
that day drawn his pay check,
of a bit of money.
