MADILL, OKLA. OCT. 23.
Next comes the election and
then Thanksgiving—for Bryan's
election.
Men and women should go to
the polls next Friday and vote
for higher education in Madill.
The Balkan situation looks
anything but good and the war
clouds gather darker and dark-
The Texas State Fair at Dal-
opened Saturday for a 16 days
session. This Fair is always a
grand time for all Texas. Ok-
lahoma is represented by Gov-
ernor Haskell.
Th crop situation here is the
best argument yet against the
single crop idea. Let every
farmer in Marshall County be-
giu now to make plans for early
breaking and more than the
usual cotton crop. Add corn,
hogs, alfalfa, oats, vegetables
and poetry^
A. C. Benge was in to see us
Tues. and had with him a gourd
measuring 4(i inches in length.
A long gourd but it was meas-
ured by the shop rule, so we
know whereof we speak. Tru-
ly wonderful to think of the
possibilities of our Marshall
County soil.
The Youths Companion for
the year 1909 is to be full of lit-
erature from the best authors
in the world. Beading matter
for every member of the family.
We have been reading the Com-
panion almost since we can re-
member and are of the opinion
that no home should be without
it.
H. Clay -Pierce, head of the
Waters-Pierce Oi1 Company,
will have to go to xexas to ans-
wer the indictment of the Trav-
is County Grand Jury charging
him with false swearing in con-
nection with the readmittance
of the Waters-Pierce Oil Com-
pany into Texas in 1900. The
ouster suit and penalty cases
against hie company are now
pending in the Supreme Court
of the United States.
FOR A HIGH SCHOOL.
On Friday, one week from to-
day, the people of Madill will
be called upon to decide if a
high school building is wanted.
The petition calls for a bond
issue of $25,000.00 The pros-
perity and morality of a town is
measured by its schools, as also
the ability and success of com-
ing generations.
Twenty-seven o f Madill's
young people are in schools
away from home, because of in-
adequate school facilities. Mon-
ey expended in other towns that
might as well be kept at home.
It must further be remember-
ed that the ladies have a vote
in all school elections, on this
question of so vital importance
to every citizen of Madill, for
public welfare and higher edu-
cation, a woman may not only
exercise her influence for the
great cause, but the right of
suffrage too.
Other towns are voting these
buildings and in one where the
question was voted upon, only
one vote was recorded against
the proposition. May Madill
do as well. The rural school
districts of Marshall County are
recognizing the advantages of
better school facilities and
many new school building the
result. Our belief is that the
progressiveness of Madill will
give us a new high school build-
ing.
At Rest.
Sam Vititoe and family re-
turned Monday from Kentucky-
Town, Texas, where they were
called to see Mr. Vititoe's
father who for some time had
been seriously ill. They failed
to see Mr. Vititoe alive as he
had passed quietly to his re-
ward before they reached home,
and was interred Friday in the
old Vititoe grave yard near his
home. The News extends to
Sam Vititoe and family and all
the bereaved friends sympathy.
Notice, Farmers.
