One of the most pleasant evenings of
pleasure and cuter.umment that it h«>
been the lot of the normalites to enjoy
since their arrival in this city, was giv-
en by them in the court house Tuesday
evening.
By o'clock the court room was filled
to overflowing, and for half an hour the
pedagogues enjoyed themselves by
conversing with their companions. Un-
til the meeting was called to order by
Supt. Julius M. Ruie, a buzz loud
enough to be that of a mechanical dev-
ice swept through the city, and those
on the streets were contemplating run
ning for cover on account of what they
thought was a swarm of bees about to
infest the streets.
The tirst number on the program was
a song by a trio composed of Messrs
Rule, W. P. Stewart and Barrickman
The song rendered was "1 Went to the
Animal Fair.'* This was tbe most com
ical feature on the program and after
repeated applause and continued calls
lor more, the comedians were compelled
to sing another ditty, entitled "Why
Mollio Chewed ths Harvest Oats, or,
Tha Farmer's Failure*" While per
forcing this feat the participants were
unaole to get toget her on a uniform
tone, each carrying a different one. The
entire assemblage voted this feature of
the entertainment as the most
comical happening during this yaar's
normal.
Harry Cook and Little Miss Mansell
favored the audience with recitations,
Miss Robertson sang a very beautiful
song, accompanied by Miss May Bank',
which was rendered in a superb man
ner, being more than pleasing to the
assemblage.
Mrs. Miller, the instructress of pri-
mary methods, was called upon for a
reading, and although she was unaware
that she woUd be txptcied to respond
to anything during tne evening, she
pleased all pressnt with a very pretty
recitation, which was well rendered.
Mr. Stewart sang "When the Ocean
Turns the Sunset from Blue to Gold."
Frank has abiliiy as a singer, and some
of these days he will equal the best in
that profession.
Mr. Galloway, another of thr nor-
maletps, converted himself for the
evening from a teacher to a lawyer,and
presented one of t2ie mo«t striking
-cenes ever witnessed in a court room.
His vocabulary was inexbaustable and
the final touch of his grand appeal for
he prisoner's life (Mr. Stidirs)
touched the hearts of 9very person in
the court room, as being extremely
humorous.
Mr. Sanders, another normal in-
structor, was forced to make an im-
promptu address upon "Single Bless-
edness." After beating around tbe
hush, Mr. Sanders made a very witty
speech in behalf of the down-trodden
sex, viz: man.
Mr. Dodson's address was serious and
well to the point. He brought forth
many reasons that a teacher haA for bis
profession, the good work that they are
constantly performing, and their tinal
reward. He brought tbe audience
from tbe ridiculous to the sublime, and
his efforts were well rewarded .
After a difficult rendition of one of
Sola's masterpieces, the normal or
cbestra retired under heavy applause,
and tbe program ended.
An hour's social intercourse was an
opportunity for every one to get ac-
quainted vi h .h other, , and a bout 11
o'clock tbe assemblage departed, for
their respective homes, hsppv to have
attended such a pleasant gathering.
