Hints on Farming
By W. M. Bamberg
Here each week will be found in-
teresting and valuable information
by t government expert.
About Some Insects.
I have frequent com-
plaints that the cotton
boll weevil has appear-
ed in large numbers in
the cotton fields. Some
who have complained
have sent in specimens
Of the insect (beetle)
which was thought to l>e
the boll weevil, but in
not a single case was a
boll weevil sent. There
is no doubt that there
are boll weevil in that
section of the State in-
fested by that destruct-
ive beetle last year, and
there is also 110 doubt
but that the beetle has
advanced north a con-
siderable distance. It is
certain that the freeze
of last November kiljed
a large number which
would have safely pass-
ed through the winter,
and it is also certain
that there will be fewer
emerge from hibernation
this year than usual.
Hence the farmer must
not look for the boll wee-
vil in large numbers,nor
must he look for them
anywhere except 011 the
cotton plant. As the
seed leaf breaks into the
atmosphere scan the cot-
ton fields closely, and
keep looking. The in-
sect will be found 011 the
leaf or on the "bud."
It will be found advisa-
ble to go over the field
once each week for three
weeks, picking and kill-
ing each weevil found.
The earlier this is done
the better for the crop.
Every weevil killed now
means that many more
pounds of cotton to be
picked in the faH.
Another insect which
should be watched close-
ly and destroyed as fast
as found is a large,bright
greeu insect variously
known as terrapin bug,
pumpkin bug, stink bug,
etc., the latter name be-
ing applied because of
an offensive odor emit-
ted. These insects punc-
ture the bolls, which
soon show signs of de-
cay and in a short time
are a total loss. It has
been known to attack
strawberries and other
garden stuff. As it breeds
in weeds, the cleaner the
fieids are kept the less
damage will be sustain-
ed. Hand picking is the
only know 11 rt?meuy.
Oil for a weeping penitent to j

her tears and dry them with
her hair!
Watch out for Texas, Gaul,
Caesar, Hannibal, Greece, Ne-
ro, Borne, Joe Bailey, Jeff Rob-
erts, etc.
We have sized the matter up
from every possicle way of look-
' ing at it and find Madill the
likeliest place for the county
seat by about two to one or a
little better.
WHO IS RIGHT!
Since it is a fact that the
Kiugston Messenger has 110
longer a single convincing ar-
gument in favor of its home as
the county seat of this county,
it now stoops to anything cal-
culated to blind and prejudice
the minds of the voters of the
county against the town of Ma-
dill—or a few of the citizens
thereof—hoping thereby to side-
track these voters from the main
question and to cause them to
sacrifice their own interests to
the interests of ambitious Kings-;
ton.
The Messenger tries to make
you believe that Madill's inter-
ests and your interests are pit-
ted against each other. O11 the 1
other hand, we can show you at
any time that the interests of
the people of Madill and those
of the farmers are one and in-
separable. A moment's consid-
eration on your part will show
the same to you.
The Messenger is a calamity
howler, finding grievous condi-
tions where none exist; a wind-
jammer, tryiug to blast wells in
the quicksand; an inverted mis-
sionary (see!), called by the
Kingstonites to preach untruths
to a sensible people, who will
not fail to be lined up for Ma-
dill on the Judgment Day—
JulyX 1908.
Because there is something in
our arguments that makes ev
eryone know that Ave are proud
of Madill and her advantages
as presented to the citizens of
Marshall County, we are called
selfish.
A petition agaiust the divis-
ion of the County Court, signed
by more than 1500 voters of
Marshall County, is called a
petition of Madill people, and
yet Madill has only about 400
voters. Better be careful; the
truth will find you out.
•Kingston people would like
to make it appear that the
bankers of Madill are Shylocks
—yea, wolves in sheep's cloth-
ing—and at the same time hold
up their banker as a symbol of
righteousness and the savior of
Marshall County. "Consisten-
cy, thou art a jewel!"
The losing game which Kings-
ton is playing causes them to
resort to any means, fair or
foul, to hoodwink the people—
their success depends upon
their ability to do this. A
Peck's Bad Boy has made some
of them believe there is a chancc
to win the fight, while others
have no hope for anything ex-
cept a temporary rise in Kings-
ton real estate, when they hope
to unload bloated values on the
unsuspecting Mr.Farmer whose
neck he is trying to encircle
and into whose ear he is trying
to whisper tales of a false Ma-
dill aud city politicians—vam-
pires sucking the life blood of
every farmer in Marshall Coun-
ty. Such tales are notbelieve-
ed by men, women or children.
The people of Madill and fann-
ers of Marshall County have
stood shoulder to shouldei ; sometimes the greatest howler
through thick and thin, through about keeping the records
prosperity and calamity—al- j straight. Seef
ways without a murmur—hence
a tale such as graces the pages | A certain farmer living south
Powell, remarked to a News
Governor Haskell and Treas-
urer J. G. Murfef have declar-
ed that all state funds are to be
transferred from National
Banks to those qualified under
the State Guarantee Banking
'jaWi
That Texas editor at Kings-
ton is still seeing snakes, and j
they are taking the form of
Texas history. What do we
I care for Texas history? Okla-
homa aud Marshall County j
know a few things.
Bootleg whiskey must flow
! j freely when Kingston's parti-
, sans are able to see visions of
■ Kingston getting a majority of
the votes for county capital,
Madill giving up and Attorney
Hardy going to Ardmore. When
1 you are told such rot, just say,
j "Drunk, By Gum!"
If you favor the convenience
of all the people, vote for
Kingston.—Kingston Messen-
ger.
Remember that you can get
to Kingston from only one rail-
road town in the county (Wood-
ville) without going through
Madill. Wouldn't that kill you?
Then, too, Woodville people
want Madill to be the county
capital.
The Kingston Messenger in-
sists that the Judges and Clerks
who conducted the Sequoya
flection at Madill were utterly
| corrupt and that a goodly num-
| ber of the voters of the north-
ern part of the county practiced
fraudulent voting and ballot
box stuffing at that election. In
110 other way can the Messen-
ger account for the large vote
Madill received in the Sequoya
j election. Has the Messenger
ever thought of the popularity
of Madill as a county seat loca-
tion among the voters!
MAPS.
Speaking of maps and
the
Messenger's ever ready injunc-
tion to guard against every map
except Bill Cross' official map,
we know a funny little story
about Kingston and two maps.
We can't tell the whole tale,
but map No. 1 had Kiugston
located oue mile further west,
thereby representing her near-
er the center of the county and
oue mile further from the Wash-
ita. Now, for reasons which, I
perhaps, the Messenger would]
rather we would not tell, map
No. 1 did not appear, and No.
2 appears without a railroad
town, or anything else, except
Kingston, Madill and the geo-
graphical center.
Of course 110 one doubts
Kingston's sincerity in this mat-
ter of maps, or anything else
she has done so crookedly, It
is just a matter of ignorance,
and one to be looked over as
the faults of a wayward child.
We just want the people to
know that the reformed man is

Stimulant! In Vegetable*.
Vegetables not only contain stimu-
lants, but are capable of producing an
Intoxicating influence on those wh6 de-
pend on them exclusively for food, ac-
cording to an Investigator. He cites a
case in which some young people of
his acquaintance suffered from partial
intoxication as the result of a purely
vegetable meal.

nection of a fountain pen are worn >
little the joint will leak enough to
soli the fingers. Dry the threads with
a blotter and cover them with melted
paraffin. Turn the nozzle into the

and you have an Ink tight Joint.—Pop-

Flag of Penniylvanla City.
The city of Easton, Pa., haa adopted
a municipal flag, said to be a copy of
the flag which waved over that town
luring the revolutionary war. The
flag has 13 red and white stripes In
thefupper corner, and the remainder
if the flag is blue with a circle of eight
white stars in the center.
Manchuria a Fertile Land.
Manchuria Is described as a good j
Tarmlng country, to China proper a!
sort of American "out west," and as
fertile In Its extensive agricultural j
areas as the garden state of Iowa, sup- i
porting millions of Chinese, who have j
:ome from the overcrowded adjoining
provinces.
High and Low Danger*.
This makes the sacredness and
awfulness of life when we come to
know It that we are never so near our j
highest as when we are most sensible
of the danger of the lowest Is never so
real to us as when the splendor of the
highest stands wide open.
Two View*.
The pessimist, wiping his eyes In
the great March wind, growled: "It'
either dusty or muddy all the time in
this infernal climate." But the op-
timist, with a sunny smile, replied:
"What a blessing it Is never both mud-
dy and dusty at once!"
A Philosopher'* Idea.
"Life of trouble," says a Georgia
philosopher, "but where In the world
Would we be if we spent any more
time celebrating Joy? As it is, when
Joy plays the fiddle we dance day and
night and then grumble at the price
we have to pay for the music."
