The towns in Hie strip wil
out of the wet.
Kp.kd is anything but czar in the
present congress.
On the (lay of the opening Perry had
a population of .*1/1,000.
The northern part of the strip lias
received an invoice of good rainwater.
i hp Oklahoma Times-Journal is
whistling like Mazes to keep up its
c mrage about itu waterworks.
It has been a little dry in the strip,
but that's a matter that the weather
bureau will remedy as noon as it gel's
round to it.
An excursion left Guthrie yesterday
afternoon for Ferry. It carried lots
of water, though what the exclusion
wanted with water is a puzzle when
beer was plenty.
Everything has been in such a gen
era! and indiscriminate mess in the last
few days that the Free Press is not cer-
t lin \ hetli. r it is on its feet or head.
One tiling wliioh has been especially
demoralizing is Hie fact that nearly all
our printers ran oil'into the strip, and
the remaining force has hardly been
able to meet the urgent demands for
job printing Kingfisher Free Press
^ oil were not alone in that cavity.
They are coniiug back, however, and
.von may rest assured they won't go
again in a hurry.
1 11 'A KM if 00 J) IIYE.
The Kingfisher Free Press, in bid-
ding goodbye to Captain J. C. Delaney,
ex-receiver of the Oklahoma City land
office, and, after growling at certain
sayings of the redoubtable old soldier,
is he an "old" soldier?; says, "JJut no
matter. Good luck to the bloody Irish-
man, anyhow." There is a genial
warmth in the wind np that Delaney
won't object to.
IT MEANS DEATH.
The lights between the towns in the
strip are beginning to attract consider
able attention. These troubles will
prove a great misfortune to Oklahoma.
They will subserve the interests of
neither town. They will engender
bitter and acrimonious feeling that is
bound, in the long run. to eftsctually
retard the progress of every interest in
the strip. They mean death to the up
building of that section of Oklahoma,
and the quicker the people li\ ing there
understand it the better.
THE POL/TICS OF THE ST HI J'.
It is pretty well settled now that the
politics « f the strip will be largely
democratic. .All of the informal
elections held indicate that. And all
the appointments made will have a
tendency to still further strengthen the
democratic interests. The coming
municipal elections will prove the
truth of what The News now says, as
well us show what kind of politicians
we have there. Those fellows are now
on trial. Let us see what they
amount to.

Outline is becoming jealous of Perry,
ami she has good reasons to be. —Press-
Cli—Hi.
Tn the language of the Ituseian peas-
ant. when anathematizing his steeds,
"You blessed infant, you heavenly
descended lamb," Guthrie is jealous of
nothing but its own good name. It
stands towering on prosperity 's apex
It is the commercial center of the Ok
lahomas. It is the cynosure of eastern
e3*es. It is the one splendid star in the
constellation of cities. It is the august,
the acme, the I am and the one. It is
the superlative of all the municipal
degrees. It is the rounded whole of a
perfect municipal sphere. It is the
Alpha and the Omega. Put that, oh
lamb, iu your, dark nargile and smoke it.
THE EA (IL/C SCHKAMS.
From the howl the Guthrie papers
are making about the water supply
there, an outsider would conclude tlint
that place is as dry as it would have the
public believe Perry to be Wichita
Eagle,
The bird is off its pcrcn. Guthrie is
not howling for water, but for a more
effective exercisu of its +52,000 water-
works plant. Water is one of our
principal industiies.

A prisonkr in the Montana peniten-
tiary at Deer Lodge is quite an artist

stick the heads of all the presidents of
the I nited States, and the likenesses
are said to be excellent.
LOVERS OF THE WHEEL.
A onk-legoed bicylist rode all the
way on his wheel from San Francisco
to Chicago. His name is F. S. lteedle-
son.
Eleven blind men lately rode in
company on bicycles from London to
Birmingham, u distance of one hun-
dred miles.
The winner in the military ride be-
tween Vienna and Berlin last fall cov-
ered the distance in seventy-one hours
and forty minutes. Fischer, who won
the bicycle race over the same road,
took tiiirty-one hours to accomplish
the task. The regular express trains
make the trip in sixteen hours.
Miss Dudley, an English bicyclist,
holds the record for long-distance rid-
ing bjr women. She made the distance
of one hundred miles, between Hituhin
and Lincoln, in little more than seven
hours, or at an average speed of nearly
fourteen miles an hour. This, too. in
regulation petticoats, und not the new
style of wheeling trousers.—Washing-

PEOPLE OVER THE SEA.
Descartes says he was followed by
an invisible person, whose voice he
heard urging him to continue his re-
search after truth.
Now they tell us that Nero was not
a monster of cruelty, and that the dis-
paraging accounts which we read were
written by his bitter enemies.
It is said that the attire of the king
of Siani is worth over one million dol-
lars. He has three hundred wives and
eighty-seven children. He is forty
years of age.
M ascaoni carries about with him a
whole host of amulets, of ivory, coral
and other materials, and including a
special collection of unroasted chest-
nuts warranted to turn off the evil eye.
Mr. (iI.adstone, who is u great ad-
mirer of Sir Walter Scott's works,
shows by his refusal to desert his old
ticotch constituency at the next elec-
tion that lie is confident of his still
assessing the "Heart of Midlothian.
