Arrested for
Running a Still.
A man by name of SmaHwood,
living about four miles south ol
town, on the Sautbine place,
was arrested last Tuesday, by i
deputy sheriff, for opperating s
still. A small still, some whis-
key and a lotof mash were found
about the place.
Some two or three months ago
Small wood came here and rented
the Sautbine farm, paying mon-
ey reot for same. A short time
later he went to Tennessee and
returned with a woman and child
that he claimed to be his wife
and son. Thus matters moved
along until this week, when there
was another chapter to the story
Another man arrived from
Tennessee, seeking his wife and
child, whom he claimed had
bei n enticed away and were now
in the care of Smallwood. Ac-
companied by Deputy Sheriff
Hartzog, they went out to the
farm. The Tennessee man in
formed the officer that Small-
wood had shipped a still out here
from Tennessee and that it
might be found about the place.
A search was made and the still
found as above stated.
The man recovered his child
but djdn't want the woman.
