<«run<l Canon of Colorado River.
On the Santa Fe route, in northern
Arizona, 1,263 from Kansas Citv, is the
town of Flagstaff. A tri-weekly stage
line runs from Flagstaff to the grand
canon of the Colorado river. More than
a mile in depth, this is the subliaiest of
gorges—a Titan of chasms. Twenty Yo-
semltes might be hidden unseen below,
and Niagara would look scarcely larger
than a brook.
Don't fall to visit this first wonder of
the world. You can "read up" about it
by asking ti. T. Nicholson, < . P. & T. A.,
A. T. k S. F. R. U. Co., Topeka, Kansas,
to mail you a free copy of an illustrated
book describing this terra incognita. The
book Is no common affair, but is enter-
tainingly written, beautifully illustrated
and a gem of the printer's art.
11K improvement in busines* gen
rally in (•utlirie has been very
noticeable during 'he past few
days. Parties who left here two weeks
ago on speculative trips to the new lands
are rapidly returning, and, in most oases,
are bringing back uiotic) with them.
< )thers who came to <iklahoma from the
slates, with a view of settling in the new
lands, and who, owing to the great rush,
failed to secure favorable locations, are
arriving here.
All this is to the interest of (iuthriu,
the capital city til the territory. Heal
estate is on the increase, and business
ventures, generally, arc fast evincing a
healthy and lasting improvement. Our
merchants have en joyed nn excellent
easli trade from the settlers, m the strip,
which enables them to order new stocks
of goods this fall.
(iutlirie, in a word, is on the high road
to better and more solid prosperity. No
failures have occurred here either with
banks or other business houses, while
throughout the country, generally, a
number have been and are still being re-
ported.
The opportunity for permanent invest-
ment in this city is at hand. Property
and business opportunities will never
again be so favorable for investors.
In view ol what Hood's Sarsaparilla
has done for others, is it not reasonable
to believe that it will also be of benefit to
you?
Will shut Uowii,
Mr. Ford, owner of the first water-
works established in Guthrie, has
decided to shut down. This is owing
to the fact that there is no use for two
waterworks companies. Mr. Ford lias
given good service to his customers for
four years and a half, and many of
them regret that lie is forced to do as
lie has decided.
uriotis as it may
seem. The Palmer family of live, whom
Chief Harris protested as not being citi-
zens, to the secretary of the interior,
were allowed by the < iwen combination,
and the interior department acquiesced.
Colonel Phillips was given to understand
that he was off, whether bis claim* were
good or bad. that it was the Owen-
Jordan firm who were recognized, aud
none other, by the department. A whole
lot of questionable claims were allowed
by the Oweu-Jordan combination, who
parcelled out the "seventy" allotments
on the strip, and deserving claimants to
allotments left off-they were not in the
ring, bcales and Boudinot, in fixing
up the little "sventy" clause in the
agreement to sell the strip, enrich
Bob Owen and a few others, that's all.
Of all the dark, dirty and damnable
frauds that was ever perpetrated upon,
or in connection with this Cherokee gov-
ernment in its whole history, the "allot
ments to the seventy" Cherokee citizens
in the strip is the foulest and blackest.
Our people demand an investigation by
congress of the infamous job.

We clip the following well merited
compliment to the delegate from < )kla-
lioma from the Washington Post of I lie
29th ult.:
The young delegate Ironi oklahoma,
Deiulis T. Flynn, lias attracted no little
attention in the house the past two days
by his vigorous statement < n the gov
eminent machinery employed in open-
ing the Cherokee strip. Mr. Flynn has
seen something of t he life of the "s< oner"'
and "boomer" himself in his career us a
rustler. He has staked his claims in half
dozen different states, practicing law in
Iowa, editing a frontier paper in Kansas,
and doing the honors of the (iutlnie
post office through the kindness "I Presi-
dent Harrison. He is a wide-awake,
smooth-faced young westerner, willi a
direct and forcible way of speakin
which has succeeded in paining the at
tent ion of the house whenever lie had
anytliiiiK to say.

wholesale liquor business at Perry.
Perry is well supplied with news
papers—three daily editions ami four
weekly. Some of these esn not staud
the pressure.
Our townsman* Voluey Hoggatt, will
probably be the first mayor of Perry.
Agent Westeryelt and his force of
assistants are handling the immense
freight and passenger business satis
factorily.
Perry'* Polio* Judge

Oal. Orner will probably be the police
judge in that enterprising community
One thing is certain, that if his fellow
citizens should conclude to elect him
to that responsible office they would

KNOWLEDGE
Brings comfort and improvement and
tends to personal enjoyment when
rightly used. The many, who live bet-
ter than others and enjoy life more, with
less expenditure, by more promptly
adapting the world's best products to
the needs of physical being, will attest
the value to health of the pure liquid
laxative principles embraced in the
remedy, Syrup of Figs.
Its excellence is due to its presenting
in the form most acceptable and pleas-
ant to the taste, the refreshing and truly
beneficial properties of a perfect lax-
ative; effectually cleansing the system,
dispelling colds, headaches and fevers
and permanently curing constipation
It has given satisfaction to millions and
met with the approval of the medical
profession, liecause it acts 011 the Kid-
neys, Liver and Bowels without weak-
ening them and it is perfectly free from
every objectionable substance.
Syrup of Figs is for sale by all drug-
gists in 50c and $1 bottles, but it is man-
ufactured by the California Fig Sy'up
Co. only, whose name is printed on every
package, also the name, SyrnpofFig*.
