• Hello, Miami, shake old gal.
We can almost hear Jw M. 0.
& G. whistling.
And the News doesn't seem to
be large enough even yet.
If winter lingers in the lap of |
Spring much longer it ought to
have its jaws slapped.
If Fairland don't build about
ten miles of sidewalks this year
she ought to be spanked.
Now let's take Miami by one ;
hand, and Afton by the other, ;
and try to be neighborly.
All the visiting preachers left i
something to remember them by •
last week—their tracks in the i
mud.
Lookout for a warm city elec-
tion this spring. Pool halls will |
be the paramount issu%. morei
than likely. •
March came in like a whole]
drove of rams this year. Let us
hope that it will go out like a
multitude of lambs.
Many complimentary remarksI
%vere heard about our town by j
our visito.'sfattending the church
conference here last week, but j
we never heard them brhgging
on our sidewalks one bit.
State enforcement officer W. J.!
Caudill of Oklahoma City, drop-
ped in on us one nig}it last week j
but found us all as good as a set;
of Sunday School children, and
we were not expecting him eith-
er. How lucky.
The kind of weather we have
been having ought, to settle for-
ever the truthfulnessspf the old
ground-hog traditio n,: and that
the 2nd and not the" 14th is the
day he appears to test the weath-;
er for the next six weeks.
This week's News contains the
announcement of W. P. McCul-
lough, as a candidate for County :
Clerk, subject to the will of his j
democratic friends at the prima- j
ry election. Mr. McCullough is
as well fitted and qualified for
the office as any man in the
county, and has demonstrated'
his fitness in the position he now
holds and has filled with credit.
He is a loyal party worker i«l is
worthy of the position.
In the landing cf the M. 0. &
G., no one in Miami deserves
more credit than the Live Wire,
which worked and whooped and
boosted until the victory was
won. When things looked blue,
and other papers of that town
went to press without a line con-
cerning the road, and it looked
like a lost cause, Coons jumped
upon the stage and warbled his
"Casey Jones" song, and new
life was injected into the cause.
And when Miami passes her or-
dinances granting the railroad
the privilege of entering and
crossing her streets and alleys,
she ought to show her apprecia-
of this untiring service by pub-
lishing said ordinance in the pa-
per that worked so hard to land
it. The local papers are expect-
to boost these things, contribute
to its expense, and when it is se-
cured, they can go to the—poor
house for their reward—some-
times,..
