ter Mrs. J. T. Parks.
Chief Harris, in response to a
telegram went to meet lion. C. V.
Rogers of the Intruder Commis-
sion, at Fort Gibson, to-day.
Mr. John Ijandrum, a leading
citlzon of Dclewtire District, has
been in tho city this weok. lie has
two sons in the Malo Seminery at
this place.
—Jacob Owens and T. W. San-
ford, ol Decatur, Wiso county,
Texas, aro in the oity, looking after
citizenship matters.
J. K. ft S. Chambors, ofSnnsot,
Texas, are in the city, looking after
Cherokee interests. They called
to seo us.
—Jas. II. Graham, who has been
with the Cherokee Telephone tor
a number of weeks, is on a visit to
liis family in Rogers, Ark.
—J. A. Lawrence, of Lawrence
ft Co., has just returned from St-
Louis; where he bought one of the
most elegant stock of goods that
ever came to Tahlequah.
—Fx-Cliief Bushyhead got 1450,-
00 lor the first lot ho sold on the
Strip in his town site. lie has a
thousand lots.
—Mrs. Bushyhead went out to
Arkansas City to view the Strip
opening last week, and to join her
husband thcro in business—the
salo of town lots ou (lie Strip.
— Hon. It. I., Owen was success-
ful with his sixty-two clients on
tho Strip; in consequence of which
he owns four town sites out there,
we hear.
—A fishing party from tins city,
went out to tlio Illinois Kivcr, the
other day, and had tbo most re-
inarkable success, securing sevorul
hundred pounds of fish.
—Kor the last three of four is-
sues of the Telephone we have run
short and failed to reach a good
many of our subscribers. We lmve
remedied this from now on.
—A grent many persons aro now
making application to perfect their
claims to citizenship in the Chero-
kee Nation, und it is)presumed that
the same conditions exist in the
other civilized Nations.
-—TaMloqtiah fc fast getting tho
namo of a bard town—and if the
shooting of nights into people's
honsos is not stopped, sotno one is
going to "jet badly hurl. Our of-
ficials should put a stop to this
dastardly business.
—A gentleman of Cherokee ex.
traction, tho non. Mr. Fidlcr of
Lonoke county, Arkansas, was i
the city the other day, looking
ftfter his citizenship interests. Mr.
Fid lor is a member of the Arkan-
sas legislature, and is a very pleas-
ant gentleman.
—Ball Christie and James Will-
iams, who have been tried nnd
condemned to death by hanging will
be exccntcd on Friday, unless I ho
white-winged angel of morcy should
intervene, which is not now at all
likely. This should be a most fear-
ful warning to evil-doers. The way
of tho transgressor is hard.
—John Fields who was triet.
and convicted in Illinois District,
on the charge of murder was found
guilty as charged, and sentenced
to death, and will bo executed on
the 27th of October, next, in the
ponitenitiary in Tahlequah. Tho
prisoner is now confined at that
placc.
—A correspondent asks u , "how
is it that outsiders not connccted
with the Kern. Sem. can board
there, and girls arc turned oft' for
want ol room?" We did not know
nor do we yet, that outsiders are
permitted to board nt tho Fcm.
Sem. We will see the Steward
about it.
—The editor of tbo Advocate
has been at his farm in Flint Dis-
trict for the past two weeks. He
is making somcextentive improve-
ments there, in contemplation,
doubtlers of an early retirement
from the editorial management of
that paper, he desires to make the
homo place as cbeorv and as at-
tractive us possible. Home, home,
sweet home, 'here s no place like
home.
—A reward of twenfy-five dol-
lars will be paid to any one who
will furnish cvidance sufficient to
cause the arrest anil conviction of
persons who have been and arc
now cutting and tamporing with
tho wire oftho Cherokee Telephone
Company.
J. S. Stapler,
Manager ol Company.
—A band of desperadoes took a
tilt at Tahlequah, last week, after
night, firing off Winchesters all
over tho city, and on tho night fol-
lowing, the same or an other gang
fired into houses in the city, nnd
among others, tbey fired into the
residence of ex-Chief Bushyhead,
the balls ranging close to two child-
ren—they escaping instant death by
the projection of the jam of thefiro
placo. This high handed lawless-
ness demands swill and condign
punishment.
—The coffins are mado nnd
ropes strctchod for the hanging of
Ball Christie nnd Jim. Williams
to-morrow, Friday, The people
of this country will never believe
that Jim "Williams murdered Dick
Boggs. Attorney Akin has been

I known what amount of money was
secured, but some four registered
pnekages were opened nnd contents
I taken. After the robbers had gone
through the bags they left them
close to the road, where they were
found on Satnrday morning nnd
brought to thin city. The Sheriff
nnd posse went in pursuit but no
one has been arrested, as we
understand, up to date.
To the People of the

—Look out ! There are a lot of
bogus tickets—National Certifi-
cates—in circulation throughout
tho Nation. Most of them bear the
name of Wilson, Clerk of Illinois
District, who is doad, and tho seals
on them are entirely dufferent
from the National soals of the
Clerks' and Treasurer. Another
thing is that the bogus tickets nre
not as largo as tho genuine certifi-
cate. These tickots are scattered
mostly in Cooweescoowee, and our

talkod'to Maj. Rainwater, the bid-
der for onr^ bonds at face value,
and are confident he moans "bus!
ncss. But 'tis understood that Chief
Harris notified him that ho could
not get the bonds for faco value.
We, and the people, nre at a loi-e
to know what, tlio Chief means, as
frtco value is all wo ever contcm
plated getting, nnd tho National
Council specified to sell them nt
face value. Tho Nationals will
eet tho cash on tho bonds if the
Dowr.ings do not.
—There is an clement of lawless-
ness in and aronnd this city that
should be {becked, at once. Tho
practice of carrying arms, revolv
ers or Winchostnrs, should be sud-
denly st< ppod. No pcrgong, except
officers in the discharge ot dut)\
should be permitted to carry
weapons. It has a bad effect, a bad
Influence, and if persisted in will
lead to most disastrous congc-
qiicnces. The National Council
should tako action in tho premises
ns well as tho City Council. It
demands prompt, vigorous and de-
termined action.
As we go to press it is report-
ed that Judge Wickliffe has been
prevailed npon to issue a writ of
hnheas corpus to save Christie's
life, and orders a now trial, lie
may issue it. but whether the
High Sheriff would pay attention
to it, is another thing. Such ac-
tion on the part of the Judge, in
such a condition of things, is un-
precedented in onr histnry—tho'
Jadgo Wiokliffo is woll learned in
the law (?) and may kt.ow whathe
is about.
Later—The writ hasjbeen issued
and tho Chief has the matter un
der advisement.
Latch Stii.l!—In accordance with
orders from Judge Wickliffe Chict
fill and attractive in all of its sur-
roundings if the strocts woro re-
paired, improved and cleaned out,
tho cobbl-stonc enrriod off—every-
thing sol in order. It would be
lar better to have that class per-
form soino useful labor in improv-
ing ana beautifying the city, than
to spend so much of their timo in
idleness, at tho cost of the govoi 11-
mont. A sufficient force could bo
put on this work so that it could
be completod in a short time. And
when that is done, let the city coun-
cil pass an ordinance, with suffi-
cient penalties that will effectually
slop fast riding and driving over
tbe streets, for that practice has
grown to bo an abominable nui-
sanco in this'city, and it should be
abated nt oncc.
Then, let tlio city authorities
wake up and take action in this
matter without a moment's delay.
