R. A. Harper and little son
Archie, were Miami visitors on
Monday last.
Father Howard came down
from Missouri last Monday t,o
take Bert's place in the Hard-
ware store a few days.
A n<>w girl baby made its ar-
rival at the home .1. P. Frellick
and wife southwest of town on
last Saturday morning.
Frank Connollv has been rush-
ing the yardsticks at the Shep-
herd store while Mr. Shepherd
was visiting in Missouri.
1 L. Burns returned to his
home at Palmer. Tex , after a
two weeks visit here. He says
he likes this country the best and
may move back some day.
Lee Moore, one of our prosper-
ous farmers south of town, is
an aspirant for Deputs L. S.
Marshal Lee is a nice clean man
and the Herald would be glad to
see him knock the persimmon.
The Herald this week finished
up a 2000 job ol eight page post-
ers for Elliott Bros., containing
a description of Fairland and the
surrounding country. This lit-,
tie outlay of advertising is bound
to bring results.
R. A. Lykins, traveling sales
man for the Springfield Paper
Supply Co., writes the Herald
from Magnolia Beach, Wash., ;
that he is having a tine time on
his vacation, but will t>e back on
, his job the latter part of this
month.
" W. O. McGorder. the concrete
man, went to Wyandotte last
Monday. That town is having
considerable concrete work done
and Bill is after doing some ol
it for them. They -will make no
mistake when they get W. C. to
do their work.
At the Odd Fellows meetinc
last Saturday night, Dr W. B.
Smith was chosen as represent-
ative of Fairland lodge, to the
Grand lodge meeting, and G. <J.
Goodman was chosen alternate.
W J. Thomas was endorsed as
District Deputy Grand Master.
R. L Rogers, of Sabinal, Tex.,
writes the Herald, inclosing his
check for a year's subscription.
He states that his family is hav
ing better health there than they
had here, and gives that as his
reason lor staying there. He
says he don't know when they
will come back home, which is as
good as saying that they mean to
come back some time. The Rog-
ers' were among our very be§t
citizens, and this community will
welcome them back at any time.

J. C. Shepherd writes that he
is having a fine time visiting and
fishing in Missouri, and may
stay over next Sunday.
We hear that there were about
a half a dozen drunks running at
large on Main street last Sunday
night. Must be a mistake.
Rev. Duncan of Afton, preach-
ed at the park last Sunday night,
as Rev. Bail has been on the
puny list for a week or so, and
was not able to preach. Quite
a crowd was present.

The Seneca ball team will be
over next Sunday to play oui
boys a return game. Our boys
defeated the Senecas a lew weeks
ago, and they are coming over to
win back what they lost. The
| locals say they shant, so there
you are.
Chandler & Mickelberry will
have their cow-footed colt on ex-
hibition at Lakeside park in
Joolin next Sunday. They mean
to take in a number of big fairs
and picnics this season with
their nature's wonder, and will
without doubt also take in some
ol' the root of all evil as they go
along.

The M. O. & G. has put in a
switch at Cleora this week.
M.Johnson went to Fairland
Tuesday where he bought and
shipped out four carloads of oats.
Carpenter J. A. McKinsy who
fell from the top of a ladder last
week and was thought to be ser
iously injured rapidly recovered
and is able to be on the job again.
The M. O. & G. section men
at this place are grading the ap-
proach to the track on Main
j street and will put in a nice
' gravel walk to connect with the
walk at Ferguson's resturant.
Ten automobile loads of good
roads boosters passed through
here yesterday from Vinita and
other points west en route to
Monte Ne, Ark., to attend the
good roads convention. ,
The brick work on the new
business block now under course
of construction, has been delayed
again this week on account of
lack of material. However, a
telegram was received yesterday
stating that the pressed brick
for the front had been shipped
and the work will be resumed so
soon as it arrives.
