Representative Longworth may
be convinced that all '-he world
loves a lover but he is far from
feeling that the sentiment is re-
ciprocated.
It is pleasing to note that the
young king of Spain says he fell
in love with his future bride at
first sight, though he was en-
gaged to her before he saw her.
Youth is so delightfully accoma-
dating in this matter of love.

English Woman Not Neat.
Time was when neatness had a
place in the tinning of young girls.
Now it is left to take care of itself,
with consequences which are unpleas-
ant to the eye in the street and ir-
ritating to. the temper In the home.
Setting aside the question of taste,
her best friend will hardly say that
the Englishwoman is neat.—The Out-

Vandal" Destroys Tapestry.
The famous tapestries of the palace
at Fontainebleau have been cut and
slashed until they are almost in
shreds; the sculptors' and. carved
v. ood mantlepieces chipped in scores
of places by a modern vandal. A well
known architect, who lias been en-
gaged to make a report on the con-
dition of the palace, states that an ex-
penditure of $inii,000 will barely
cover the costs of the most urgent
repairs.

The fun at a recent banquet in
New York was produced by a
burlasque life insurance investi-
gation. The fun at a Gridiron
dinner in Washington was simi-
larly stimulated by a burlasque
building of the Panama Canal.
Even the most grim episodes
furnish fun for an irreverent
public.
Like It. but Different.
The capital of a western state had
been relocated at a small county-seat
village where an old time exhorter
preached every Sunday with increas-
ing enthusiasm as the building boom
enlarged his congregation. He want-
ed a big revival, and urged all to join
in the Christian work, saying vehem-
ently: "The Christian work is just
like any other work, only it is very
different."—Magazine of Fun.
Use for Cockroaches.
"Wanted, cockroarhes in large num-
bers," is unknown as an advertise-
ment in American papers, but it is
said to be not unfamiliar in England.
Its mysterious meaning was made-
evident in an advertisement in a Wim-
bledon (England) paper: "Wanted,
10,000 cockroaches by a tenant who
agreed to leave his present residence
in the same condition as it was when
he took it."

The Pace That KHIs.
Work is good. But when it reaches
the point where the worker is con-
scious of its strenuosity it becomes
the pace that kills. In no country are
there so many nervous wrecks both
among men and women as in this
hustling, get-rieh-quick America. It
is here that we need less strenuous-
ness, more repose of soul and body.—

The Danger Signal.
Red is the signal tor danger every-
where. Even in the far away Society
islands the natives are bound to rush
to the rescue when the red signal light
Is seen. These island rs produce the
light by burnin™ a dried seaweed,
which gives forth a cherry red.
