THE GREAT CAKE WALK.
An Evening « ; Fen and Frol-
ic etthe Masonic Hall.
Shawnee was in a jolly mood
last nisrht. The cnke walk was
something new in her history 11 d
right Avell did she enjoy it.
Miss Brown and a number of the
Eastern Star ladies are to be thank
ed for this entertainment.
The Masonic Hall was crowded
to its utmost capacity, and among
them were the most cultured and
refined people of the city. Old
men with grey hairs, and some
with 110 hair at all; young men
full of fun, demure matrons and
frolicsome lasses, all took a hamd
either as participants or spectators,
and everybody laughed.
After a musical program which
, was real good, had been rendered
and a parade of those who were
gotten up for the occasion, the con
' testants for the cake were called.
First came H. C, Jennings and
Will Hammilton. and the peels of
laughter that greeted their exploits
showed how well they imitated the
southern negro. tThen Claud
Rorer and Harry Scott entered the
ring. They too brought down the
house by f their fine [immitations.
Next came Mrs, W. W. Scott and
Mrs. Dr. Mahr. By the time they
were through all the other contest-
ants had become frightened and
others entered the ring. The judg
es gave the decision in favor of the
last named couple.
^ Rev, Dr. Griffin, Ab& Cole and
