K. T. Henson went down to
Burkburnett Wednesday on a bus-
iness trip.
Ollie Hindman came up Satur-
day from Burkburnett for a few
days visit with his family.
Dee East has purchased a new
Ford touring car from J. P.
Fritch, the Carter agent.
Chester Hyder left on Friday
of last week for Bnrkburuett,
where h e will remain and
work for a while.
Mrs. M. E. Morse returned
Saturday from Woodward, Okla.,
where she has been visiting with
her daughter for several weeks.
Mrs. S. A. Burch, mother-in-
law of W. E. Hunt, went down
to Altus Saturday to spend a
few days with relatives.
Mr. Ed Kesler was in Carter
from Wichita Falls, the first of
the week. We suspect his bus-
iness was to get in on the ground
floor in the new Carter oil field,
and when succesful oil men like
him show that they have faith in
the oil development here it
makes us fellows who do not
know much about the oil game
feel more jubilent over the
future prospects here.
B. D. Grigg’s father, Mr. W.
B. Griggs of Marietta, Ga., died
at his home on Friday of last
week. Mr. B. D. Griggs left
Carter for Georgia before his
father's death in the hopes of
reaching Marietta before he died
but the funeral had already taken
place on Saturday before Mr.
Griggs arrived. Deceased was
84 years old, and his death was
caused by pneumonia.
Big crowds are attending the
free shows that are being given
here now every Saturday after-
noon. A good many thought the
one last Saturday was the best
that has yet been put on. Good
crowds are also attending the
regular shows on Friday night
and Saturday night of each
week. Waller & Davis, proprie-
tors of the show, are now using
their own current as tl;ey have
installed a gasoline engine and
generator of their own.

It seems that the time has
arrived when it is a very easy
matter for it to rain in this part
of the country. So much
rain has fallen in the last few
days that the ground is soaked
deeper than it has been for years,
and by the time one shower
dries up on top we have another.
Some of the farmers are fearful
lesb so much rain causes the
wheat to take the rust and thus
be damaged, while others don’t
seem to think there is any dan-
ger and say that the present
prospect fora bumper wheat crop
is better than ever before in the
history of the country. Somej
fields are heading out so it will1
not be long now till we will know
what the crop is really going to
yield.
