How can a Republican endorse
President Taft and condemn his
governmental ideas, and all an
the same time.
How can you “insurge” and
say that you are for Republican
national platform? Isn’t that
consistent? You will disgust the
Democrats by such assertions,
before primary time if you pre
sist.
We can assure you of seeing something nice and
that will interest you as we have an exceptionally fine

The legislature promised to
only remain in session twenty-
one days. If there is not some
improvement in its work over its
past session it will take twenty-
one years for the people of the
state to recover from the effect.
It seems as though it has nev-
er dawned upon some of the
rural Republicans of this Con
gressional district that the in-
surgents are leading them into a
Democrat trap. Thejr are get
ting wise and that mighty fast.

Political history tells us that
there were insurgents at the
time that Abraham Lincoln was
a candidate the second time for
the nomination for the presiden-
cy. Mr. Freinont and his fol-
wers were the insurgents at that
time. How many Lincoln Day
orators will try to tell the peo-
ple that were Lincoln alive today
that he would be an insurgent.
In the past week several Dem-
ocrats have visited this office and
upbraided the editor for the
stand the Record has taken in
political matters in the First Dis-
trict. For some reason they are
all knocking on McGuire and
boosting for Garber. When
asked why they did not boost for
Dr. Cook, of Garfield county, the
Democratic aspirant, some of
them were honest enough to tell
us that they could boost for him
after the primary election. Isn’t
it wonderful?
The editor of the Lahoma Sun
says that he sit within four feet
of Senator Brownlee, of King-
fisher county, when the Senator
made his speech at the “Star
Chamber Meeting” at Enid and
that the Senator did not say that
he would see that Pawnee county
was tied onto the tail end of the

antee Fund.

from grace that time, and told
the truth, the whole truth and
nothing but the truth, and the
Senator, the Enid Eag'.e and
Judge Cullison dare not deny it,
for if they do it can be proven by
Judge Garber himself.
STAND PAT
According to the Medford Pat-
riot last week, that paper inti-
mates that the Republican news-
papers of this district which
have seen fit not to fly to the
support of Judge Garber, as
against the present congress-
man, B. S. McGuire, are taking
the position that Garber had no
right to announce for Congress,
which are far from the real facts
in the case. Every paper that is
standing by McGuire is doing so
for the reason that they are op-
posed to any Republican candi-
date making the race for any of
flee on a Democratic platform,
and do not feel that they want to
be classed with the crow’d known
as assistant Democrats. Judge
Garber or any other man, in the
first district, has a right to an-
nounce for congress or any other
office, but when it comes to ask-
ing the Reoublicans to vote for
strongest Democratic congres- j them when they are standing on
sional district that is possible to a platform built by the Demo-
be formed. The Sun editor says
that the man who told the Enid
Events that the Senator made
that assertion “lied”. We don’t
crats, and endorsed by that party
and by that party’s leaders, it is
going farther than true Republi
cans will go. When ever a man
know who told the Events of that repudiates the principles for
remark, but if it was the biggest which the Republican party has
liar in the state, and no depend-1 advocated for years, it is time
ance could be put iu him, he fell i that that man look around and
see if he can measure up to the
standard as laid down in the Re
publican platforms. Is he a man
that can be trusted to carry out
the principles of the Republican
party? Why is an insurgent so
well thought of by the Demo-
crats? Where such Democrats
as Cham Clark, of Missouri, and
Senator Gore, of Oklahoma, will
state in public speeches, that, if
this insurgent sentiment can be
kept alive until election day,
after that it will not be necessary
to worry about Joe Cannon or
any other Republican being elect-
ed speaker of the house of repre-
sentatives, for the house will
surely be Democratic and a Dem-
ocrat will be elected speaker.
Don’t it begin to dawn upon
yon why there are Republican
papers in this Congressional dis-
trict, who are against Mr. Gar-
ber and not for the reason that
they think that be has no right
to announce himself for con-
gress. Can’t you see the card
the Democrats have up their
sleeve, its plain, and as large as
the side of a barn.
Really, now do you blame Re-
publican newspapers for stand-
ing for B. S. McGuire, for he
stands for w’hat these papers
have always advocated, made his
campaigns open and above board,
and never resorted to forming a
partnership with the Democrats,
on some kind of an “ism”, but
has always stood true to his con-
victions and true to the Republi-
cans of his district. Do you
blame a good Republican for
“standing pat?”
