telegram that we received last

of Chase, the soldier boy:
COPY OF TELEGRAM

The Express,
Carter, Okla.
We hold one thousand dollars
deposited with copy of letter
dated July 2nd, addressed to
Hon. Scott Ferris, signed by
Thos. F. Chase, with instructions
to pay said sum to any disabled
soldier or charitable institution
within the state when Mr. Ferris
denies under oath charges made
by Chase set forth in letter. No
demand or sworn denial has
been filed with us.
—American National Bank.
Now then the Ferris support-
ers are putting out circulars in
an effort to discredit the charges
made in the letter by claiming
that Chase himself did not write
the letter but that it was written ^
by a lawyer. But we notice that
the circular omits entirely the
essential part of the whole af-
fair. It does not say a single
word about Mr. Ferris making
any sworn denial pf the charges
and pulling down the $1000. Now
we would like to know what
ifference it makes who wrote
the letter just so Chase signed
it, and the bank says he signed
it, and so long as Ferris does not
deny?
