Laborers Wanted
For Government Work
Our Government being in urgent
need of laborers has called on our
town to furnish it’s quota of same.
Wages will range from 35c to 70c
per hour.
Transportation will be furnished
free from Elk City
Sunday Oct. 13.

DIED
Mr. H. M. Conner of Willow,
Okla., died at his home near that
town on Wednesday of last week
of bone erysipelas.
Mr. Conner was right well
known in this part of the coun-
try he having lived here in the
past. He bought a place out
west of Willow last fall and
moved on same.
He had been ill for a long time
with the fatal malady before he
passed away. We are informed
that he had been ill for 109 days
when death came and relieved
him of his suffering.
The remains were laid away in
the Willow cemetery Thursday
following his death.
The EXPRESS extends sympa-
thy to the bereaved family.
Clarence and Marvin Cain re
turned Sunday from up near
Sweetwater where they had been
picking cotton for Mr. Cal
Barnes.

Mr. W. B. Ross informs us
that his son John, who is in
training at Camp Pike, Ark.,
has had an attack of influenza
but has recovered from same.
Several of the family of Mr. J.
Locke of near Willow, have been
down with influenza for several
days, some of them being real
sick with the disease.
W. E. Hunt, manager of the
Co-Operative Association here,
paid for a four month subscrip-
tion fora couple of his boys one
day last week. He thought the
war would be over by that time
and from the way the Germans
r’e being driven back we believe
tie is about right.
O. H. Skelton and family are
I moving to Carter from Erick this
week. They will live jn the
N ortheast part of town fora
[while,but will move later to the
! farm where W. S. Siddall is liv-
ing, as Mr. Siddall has leased a
large farm southwest of Erick
and will move to same.
RAINS
A good rain fell here Tuesday
night which will be worth thoqs-.
ands of dollars to the farmers
who have stock to carry through
the winter as the rain will make
wheat pasture for same,
We are informed by farmers
residing out east of town that
the rain was heavy throughout
that section. The creeks and
ravines were overflowed from
the downpour of rain that fell.
Farmers coming into town
Wednesday were all in good hu-
mor over the rain.

B. O. Davis had the name of
ins brother Jack, placed on our
sub list Wednesday Jack is in
the Naval training station at
San Diego, Calif.
Judge Estes has sold his resi-
dence in the south part oi town,
situated on Block B of the Estes
addition, to Ira Cain, the entire
block being included in the sale.
J. B. Britton of Carter, black-
smith and garage man, hated to
see the paper go “busted" so he
made us a donation last Friday
to apply on his subscription.
MILLINERY—I have opened up my
fall millinery stock in the building
recently vacated by the Variety
Store on north Main Street and
cordially invite your patronage.

Mr. and Mrs. T. B. Davis went
up to Sweetwater last Friday
where they visited with relatives
until Tuesday.
Lowell Schlotz returned from
a visit back to eastern Oklahoma
Sunday morning.
