It waa then where I took all my childish cares
Away from the atinnhlue'i gloom.
Aad wept till the grid In my heart rolled away
Like the stone Irom the Muvlor's tomb.
And I knew lor each grlel pnd each sorrow,
A comfort divine would be given,
As of old. I should And a sweet solace there •

But when I had reached my beautiful glen,
Where the elms threw their cool shadows wide
I turned there to sit me upon the solt grass,
And, lot flisre yon stood al my side;
Your loving arms folded around me,
TO my lips your warm kisses were pressed

—Messrs. Franklin and Carney, of
this place, have taken iu Oklahoma
proper in the last two weeks, and they
say that they like i’ond Creek better
than any place they have sedh in their

—John Massa and Wm. Franklin
were arrested Thursday afternoon charg
ed with stealing forty-live feet of
smooth fence wire; the plaintiffs being
Joe McKinney aud J. E. Hallisy. As
far as we have learned, (and we believe
we have the right statement of the
case) Mr. Massa told Mr. Franklin to go
to the back end of his (Massa’s) lot and
bring him some of the wire which he
would find laying there. Mr. Franklin
by mistake took a part of the wire be-
longing to Joe McKinney which had
been used for fencing his (McKinney’s)
lot, but which was down on the ground
at the time. McKinney coming by
missed the wire and easily found out
where it had went, as no effort was made
to conceal it. "When Mr.McKinney called
Mr. Massa’s attention to the matter Mr.
Massa at once went to the hardware
store and purchased enough new wire
(10c worth) to make good what his man
hAd taken through a mistake. After
he had bought the Wire to fix the fence,
then McKinney and Hallisy swore out
a warrant for his arrest.
LATER.
Since writing the above we have
learned that Messrs Massa and Frank-
lin rvpre honorably acquitted of the
above charge.

One of the most enjoyable events of
the season was the consumation of a
plan originated by Mesdames Jones
and Wilson to surprise Mr. aud Mrs.
Myers on last Wednesday evening.
The party formed at the home of
Mrs. Jones, and went en masse to the
Myer residence on West Main Street.
To say it was a complete success is put-
ting it mild.
One of the most highly appreciated
features of tbe occasion was au elegant
lunch which had previously been pre-
pared by the ladies,—consisting of ah
tbe delicacies of the season.
Mrs. Myers proved herself an adept
iu the art of entertaining, and after an
eloquent address was delivered by
Judge Moran, in bis usual pleasing
style, the guests departed for tbeir
homes, congratulating themselves on
having been able to paiticipate iu the
pleasures of tbe occasion.
