Barn Burns
The barn on the south place of
Jiff! Henslee where Sol Patterson
lives was burned late Saturday
afternoon. Mr. Patterson lost
quite a lot of feed and grain in
the blaze. A contribution was
being made up for him here in
town Monday and the citizens
were contributing liberally.
We are not informed as to
how the barn caught fire.
Be prepared to see the Geisbe

E. M. Green Here
From Erick Wednesday
Mr. E. M. Green of Erick,
nominee of the Democratic party
for sheriff, was here Wednesday
meeting the Carter people. Mr.
Green has many close friends
in this part of the county and is
making more friends every time
he visits Carter. Our personal
opinion is that he will make the
county a good sheriff. Carter
being a strong Democratic pre-
cinct he will poll a heavy vote
here as well as throughout the
entire county.
Don’t fail to see the Duchess
Fryino get revenge.
Singing Convention
At Highway
The County Singing Conven-
tion was held at Highway last
Sunday, there being present one
of the largest crowds ever as-
sembled in that part of country.
The large auditorium was full
and many could not get in the
house a't all. The singing was
excellent and was certainly en-
joyed by those present. Long
I tables were made south of the
building where a fine dinner
I was spread at the noon hour.
The next convention will be at
Short Creek, live miles north of
I Sayre.

to grow in a huriy, and we
believe that the Carter tests have
as good a chance of getting oil
as those just a little further
away.
This last test that is going in
southwest of town will be put
down by Mr. S. M. Wilson of
Wichita, Kansas, the contract
for the test having already been
signed up we are informed by
Mr. J. I. Chandler, one of-the
citizens who was instrumental in
getting up the leases and
getting the contract signed up
regard to same.
The farmers who are respon-
sible for the signing of this last
test here have been working on
the proposition for several
months and it was only by the
penistent and hard work of
some of them that they have
been enabled to get a contract
signed for a test to be made
in their neig)\borbood. They
believe down there that they
have oil and they are willing to
work together in order to get a
test.
K. T. Henson Spoke
Here Saturday
The people here, especially the
Walton supporteis, were given a
real treat Saturday afternoon
in the way of a speech by Mr. K.
T. Benson, a local citizen. A
large crowd listened attentively
as he delivered his address on
the street. The people had to
stand but that made no differ-
ence so long as they were enjoy-
ing the lecture, and as it was a
Walton crowd by an overwhelm-
ing majority it goes without
saying that they enjoyed what
was said, which they showed by
their applause.
Allhough K. T. is only a local
speaker without practice yet
when it conus to presenting
plain facts and figures in a con-
vincing manner he is hard to
beat, and his speech was consid-
ered quite a treat by our voting
citizenship.
Visits Mammoth Cave
Mr. J. H. Waggoner returned
the latter part of last week from
an extended visit back in his old
home state, Kentucky. Mr.
Waggoner reports a very pleas-
ant and interesting visit. While
back there he visited the Mam-
moth cave which is a very inter-
esting place indeed. He was
several hours going through the
cave, there being several in the
party and were accompanied by a
guide, and saw all of the many
natural wonders that are found
in the cave.

Error In Advt.
The EXPRESS is due Mr. Long
an apology for making an error
in his produce advertisement
last week. We quoted the price
on hides at 4 cents when it should
have been 7 cents. Mr. Long did
not get his cream testing outfit
in either by Saturday as he
thought he would consequently
be lost a lot of cream business
on that day. He has the outfit
in now however and is testmg
and buying right along. Our
readers will find cream and other
produce prices listed in Mr.
Long’s advertisement on anoth-
er page.
