Mr Tuqua received a letter from his
son at the Wichita hospital that he
was feeling much better since he had
his leg cut off. Mr Fuqua’s son had the
leiders of his foot cut off about a year
ago,became worse and in order to save
his life was obliged to send him to the
hospital to have his leg amputated.

Our school teacher, Miss Kuth
Grundy, of Alva, quit our school 2
miles north and 1 west of Hopeton.last
week and the school is without a teach-
er. We very much regret Miss Grundy
leaving as we were all in hopes we
would have a good term of school.
We would like to see those Enid men
put their new railroad line through
Hopeton, as we are 12 miles from a
railroad market and there is long way
north as well as east without a market.
Let us try to secure a depot at our vil-
lage and have a good thriving town at
Hopeton.

blacks and a Dili eh constable is report-
ed to have been kidnapped and eaten.
Several blacks were also murdered.
Minister Sard For Slander.
Topeka, Jan. 22.—Suit has been filed
against Kev. J. D. McFarland by the
police force of Topeka alleging slander.
The police as a force have no corpora-
te existence, therefore the ease was
brought with Chief O’Donovan as
plaintiff and damages will l»e asked.
Dr. McFarland is pastor of the First
Methodist church of this city and made
the alleged slanderous charges in a
pulpit sermon.
Kelly Converted And Sentenced.
St. Louis, Mo., .Ian. 24.—Charles F.
Kelly, member and former speaker of
the house of delegates, is convicted of
perjury in connection with the Subur-
ban street railway franchise deal and
given two years in the penitentiary.
The verdict of the jury was returned
lifter six hours spent in consideration
of the evidence. Kelly was charged
with having sworn falsely before the
grand jury concerning the 975,000
boodle fund in the Suburban railway
franchise deal.

Wednesday night Stanley withdrew
from the race. Twenty-six of the
twenty-nine men with him resolved to
support Dong, anti as the Long vote
was 44 on the last ballot, this insures

five story building at 512-519 Delaware
street, caused 8100,000 loss, distributed
as follows: Jones Brothers Dry Goods
company, which used the upper floors
for a warehouse, St0.000; Rotlieiiburg
& Schloss, wholesale cigar makers.
S30.000; building, Slu.ooo. Insurance
about two-thirds of the loss.

Wichita, Jan. 20—Fairmount college
endowment has been completed. Dr.
D. K. l’earson's money lias been secured
and is now in the hands of the trustees.
The total endowment of the institution
aggregates, in cash and subscriptions,
8105,000. The first effort in the accom-
plishment of a great purpose has been
brought to a successful issue.” This
news was given out by R. L, Holmes,
secretary and treasury of Fairmount
college, he having been directed by the
trustees to give out the news.
New Cowl Compnay Formed.
South McAlester, L T., Jan. 22.—
Articles of incorporation were tiled by
the Ilailey, OUla., ( oat Company, with
principal offices at Hailey ville. The auj
thorized capital is 8700,000. of which
$250,000 is paid in. The stockholders
are Dr. Hailey and the Oklahoma Coal
and Mining Company, a Kansas cor-
poration, of which L. W. Bryan, James
Elliott and G. L. Jllaekford are the
heaviest stockholders. I). M. Hailey,
G. L. Blackford and James Elliott are
directors, and James Elliott, secretary.

appropriation bill, as completed by the j
house committee, carries S1.13,4.'i0.049, j
ag-ainst $138,416,398 under the current
law. The estimate was 8133,010,520.
The principal items arc: Railway mail
service. 138,212,000, about 82.000,100 in
excess of the current appropriation;
rural free delivery, 812,619,300, which
is $5,000,030 more than the current
appropriation. The same subsidies as
provided last year are continued by
the new bill.
