the officials of the Carnegie Steel
Company makiug all contracts
for structural and other steel ma-
terial to be used in tlie recon-
struction of San Francisco “emer-
gency orders," and giving them
precedence over all other con-
tracts.
John C. Neale, structural engi-
neer of the Carnegie company
left last night for San Francisco
to take charge of the structura
force of the United States Steel
corporation on the Pacific coast.
He will direct the operations of
the company at this point during
the first stages of the rebuilding.
The order relating to the emer-
gency material for San F rancisco
it is said, will apply not only to
direct contracts from that city,
but also to contracts placed bv
builders who may receive orders
to begin the work of rebuilding.
It is also stated that it will apply
