JOLLY JOLLIES A LITTLE.
Editor I*over, of Apache, after thirteen years
spent in vain arguments designed to teach the
power of advertising, has permitted Ins wife to
condescend to the plane of a common merelian-
less that he might gain Ins point. The Boyers
have purchased a nun-going business and stock
of hooks and stationery and purpose hv “syste-
matic newspn|H'r advertising to luiild up a lu-
crative business. Mr. Hover is not giving adver-
tising halt a chance to vindicate itseit in the fir-t
place il would lie lull'd for even I’armenter or
FhIi.v to write ads that would make a stationer's
business ‘go* in'a small town mid the second place
every non-advertiser in the town will give the
woman in the ease ............ for the success of
the plan, (irncemont Herald.
ITiiloiihtfilly, if 'Mr-. Boyer makes a success of
her little business undertaking, as Brother Jolly say-,
thi' non-adverti-er will credit all the results to the
salesmanship of the lady in the ease, anil she will lie
entitled to a great deal of it. But already enough
people have called at tin- office, remarked about see-
ing the advertisements and bought enough to make
the space used n paying investment at regular adver-
tising rate-, mid we have used more space than we
would have Imd the nerve to a-k anyone eles to use
who had no larger stock of goods than that carried by
Mr-. Boyer. Now, if a small business in one corner of
a printing office will justify an advertising s|muc of
from $1.00 to si.AO a week, there is not 3 gTOCWy
store or drug store in town that could not make a
quarter page advertisement in every issue a big pay-
ing investment: not a hardware store but could well
afford to use half a page each issue and not a general
store but could make a full page each issue pay big
dividends.
If Hie men limits of any community would adver-
tise m these proportions, change their copy each is-
sue: fill their -paces with descriptions of their goods
mid priei-. and make the prices right, the mail order
house- would soon find slim picking in that communi-
ty, mid the extra profit- from Im-me-- now going to
other town- and to the big mail order liou-i- would
pav for lie advertising nmny times over.

THE CITY SHOULD PURCHASE A SPRAYER
Me believe that the city of Apache should pur-
chase a machine with which to spray trees to remove
the hag worms, ami then an ordinance should he pus-
-i d fixing a rate for -praying nnd compelling all prop-
er! v uw iici- to spray their trees. I'ldess something
like this i- done a great many line tree- which have
taken years and a great deal ot labor to grow, are
sure lo lie lost this summer. We lielicvc that the city-
can not only pay for the machine. Imt can derive a
revenue which will help pay the city’* other excuses
«it tin- is done, and the cost ot n machine lor this
work i- so small that it will not lie burden-ome to the
city to puri'lmsf one.

It hr.s been reported to this office, u- will lie
i>ii from an article published elsewhere in iht-
paper that the foot anil mouth disease has made its
nppemauee within a lew mile- ol Apache, one farmer
losing practically his entire herd of hogs from Hus
dread disea-e. This report should Im investigated
ami if it i- really the loot and month disease steps
should lie taken at once to eradicate the disease and
to prevent it tram spreading, We have troubles
enough nnd there are plenty ot other tilings to make
the funnel's hie something other than a bed of rose-
without tlm addition ot this disease.

Me trust Hint in the ease of the election officials
now on trial at Lawton the evidence will be thorouh-
Jy sifted and if guilty an example may be made of the
culprits. In a republic no crime can be graver than
n crime against the ballot, for it is through the ballot
that oil lend' are chosen to make and administer the
laws.
