The baby contest Thursday after-
noon at the county fair was a scene
of (fond mothers and babes galore.
There were twenty-two babies enter-
ed In the contest put on by the Metro-
politan Life Insurance company and
Misa Enid Parker, the city visiting
nurae. Theflrst prize went to Mar-
garet Staid ~ Long, Dewey, score 98,
age fire months, parents, Mr. and
yirs. Isa wren ce Long. For the first
prize a savings account of $5 was op-
ened at the First National bank.
The second prize went to Ruby
Grace McWhirt, Dewey, score 96.9.
age fourteen months, parents Mr. and
Mrs. F. S. McWhirt. Tne seleond
prise was a $2 order on Schutnan’s
store. Third prize went, to Ruby Ar-
line Smith, Dewey, score- 95, age 14
month, parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. E.
Smith. Fourth place went to Walter
Bergman, Bartlesville, score 95, age
26 mtonths^ parental, Mr. and Mrs
Walter Bergman. No prize was of-
fered for bird and fourth paces. The
Judgea wee D. John P. Torey, Wil-
liam P. Rlngo, V. A. Boucher. The
nurses In attendance were Miss Par-
ker, Mrs. Richardson, Miss Schell amd
Miss Parsons.

tional bank, of .Dewey, eavs. although

here eight years. Only under the
most favorable business connections,
with the new bank at Bartlesville,,
was toe persuaded to leave Dewey
Mr. Cannon formerly lived at Bartles
vim when he first cme to Oklahoma
from his Kansas home. Mr. Cannon
has. by his courteous treatment, and
genial personality, maSe many- warm
friends in Dewey and/this vicinity.
Mr. O. A. Pat-ridge will take his place
at the First National as cashier ami
Mr. Eden will be the assistant (ash
continue to live at Dewey, for a short
timt at least,, as .the house problem

AT THE®BAPTIST CHURCH
We are now In a revival meeting.
The meetings aire growing In inter
it. The pastor is conducting this
work. Next week F. W. Carnett. the
pastor of the First Baptist church
of Bartlesville, will preaah for us

Ralph Brown, Who was seriously
burned recently, is doing quite well,
but does not expect to roeoter school
before Christmas.
Dr. Roy Detrie and Mr Boyer of
Wichita made a trip to Dew-fy Sun-
day on mptorcycle. and also out to
the Osage hills to visit Mr. Detrie.
Mrs. Ruth McQuirt and parents ex-
pect to make their home In Dewey for
some time.

Mrs. Mrtha Dickey was born In 18-
48 and died the 7th day df October,
192d, in the 72nd year of her life.
She Is survived by one son, two broth-
ers. one sister and a granddaughter,
who Is teaching in the Dewey schools.
She was married In Pontuslc, Illinois,
in 1866 and Mr. Dickey died in 1899.
Two sons. Holley and Edward, pre-
ceded her. leaving Herman to mourn
her losss. She became a Christian at
Bartlesville and when the Christian
church ws organized In Dewey she be-
came one of the charter members.
Mrs. Dickey was well known In Dew-
ey where she resided mnay years and
all speak In the highest praise of her
Christian influence and kindness if
heart. A pood woman has gone from
earth but heaven is made richer and
more real to the friends and loved
ones left behind. The divine message
from on high says. "Blessed are they
who die in tlte Lord that they may
rest form their labors and may have
a g right to the tree of life."
The funeral was held Sunday at
2:30, in the Christian church of Dew-
ey. Rev. W. J. Haywood “preached
the sennon and a large circle of her
friends gathered to pay their respects
to one who had Uwd such a good
Christian life and who had always
worked for the uplifting of human-
ity. 8he was buried at the Dewey
cemetery amidst a bank of flowers
sent by loving hands.
Mr. and Mrs. Richard A. Byrd of
Glen Oak announce the birth of a eon
Saturday at 4 p. m. He has been
named Rlrhard Cordao Byrd.
