The religion of the United Si.at-.-s
for gererations hack has been consi-
derably a religion'ofg savings banks.
There is something of course to be
said for that religion.. It pars out
pretty well in a good many particu-
lars but into many minds in the last
n years has come like absolute news
i f realization thmat it will not save
the v. j.' I. Accumu'ated capital comes
in hardy but that it not enough.
Unless there is something else to
hold the m'nds of men a fite will
sooner or later break out in them t:.a1
will reduce all savings to ash ':'. Vliat
is an old story. The lesson of it is
that the most important inheritance
that children get from their parents
's spiritual and mental. Dollars can-
not make them safe in the word, but
character can. With character dol-
lars will probably be useful-t without
it, they won't. To teach one's son to
give may easily be a better provision
for him than to teach him ta save -
