lahoma and Indian Territory.
Forecast for today. Local showers,
cooler, northerly winds.
The Barrels and Toothpicks in
uniform would be worth seeing.
The city council have seemed dis
posed to do what they deem beet for
the city. They should investigate,
for they may be imposed upon.
The city council ought to investi-
gate the workings of the entire police
force. When complaint is brought
against as clean a man as Lee Tom
lin it looks as though something was
rotten.

representatives Blaine was a shrewd

ties possessed by no other living

Tiie koduk is said to be playing a
silent but most effective part in the
little farce now acting in the new
lands. There may be one act more
than most of the players care to take
part in, und iu that act the kodak
will come gloriously to the front.
The Y. M. (J. A. delegates now
the city represent the best people of
the territories. They seem endow
ed with much religious coal, and are
earnest in the work they have set
about to perform. Such earnestness
in such a noble cause will awaken in
tcrest in all religious circles.
Otiieh counties have spent a good
detl of money on roads. Our county
has spent but an insignificant sum for
this purpose. If the money is prop-
erly expended, even in liberal
amounts,for such a purpose nobody
will object. No murmur will go i
about heavy taxes on that account.
The democratic party has be

The parly clamored loudest when our
industries needed the most fostering
and the government ueeded the mon-
ey, When the time did arrive that
the tariff might be modified and
duced, the plan of reciprocity was
ready and forthcoming from the re-
publican household. It is so in ull
things. The republican party is til
ways ready with a safe and feasible
plan for effecting all reforms.
The progressive party of the
Chickasaw nation will join the non
citizen element in sending

A single committee of three or four,

to accomplish nothing. What the

oklahoma weather.
This is Oklahoma.
No oceans lap her luxurious lorio
with their cooling and enchanting
arms.

chasing through the sky driving his
flrebreathing steeds to the western
horizon, there to flush them iu the broad
Pacific looks luridly down upon lis

But at night the universe is every-
where illimitable. Softly one by one
the evening stars appear. Prom the
)tith Aeolus sends light zephyrs,
leu with the tropic* rarest perfume*
The winds whisper, the grassos sigh,
ke the sighing from the summer sea.
Pluto's shades wrap the earth in their
Cimmerian maze. All lines are obliter-
ated—now is again illimitable sky

of eternity—Guthrie News.
The plain Kngllsh of which is that
the days in Oklahoma often grow un-
comfortably hot, but the nights are
are always cool and balmy.
(J knetially throughout the coun-
try the newspapers have condemned
tho effort of the farmers through the
agency of the alliance to hold the
enormous wheat crop for a fair price,
here is only one apparent reason
by such an attempt should be dis-
couraged, while great good would
result if the experiment should prove
success. The only apparent reason
why the farmers should be urged to
throw their wheat crop upon the mar-
ket is that it would the sooner ease
financial stringency in the agricultur-
al communities. On the other hand
if the surplus is always held in the
farmers granaries the grain speculator
is driven out of busincs, and the hen-
eat legitimate grain dealer is given an
opportunity to cirry on a safe busi-
ness. It would bring the producer
and the consumer into closer relation-
ship, would make grain producing a
safer business, and without imposing
additional burdens on tho consumer.
It is tho gruiu speculator who men
aces both the producer and consumer
with the millions of bushels of wheat
ho has at his call in the elevators. He
threatens to throw it all upon the
market to depress prices, and then
threatens to withold it to raise the
price ol breadstuff ■ .
Tin county commissioners evident-
ly intend to issue bonds to cover the
warrants unlawfully issued to pay the
salaries of deputies. If no protest is
eutered against it Judge Clark will
doubtless order the issue. Those
interested in the economical adminis-i
traflon ol county affairs should take
action in the matter before the mat-
ter comes up before the court agaiu.

Examine the map of the India
Territory carefully and it will be seen
that directly cast ot Oklahoma City
the small Kickapoo reservation. It
has not bee n negotiated for and the
right to go upon that reservation is
not abridged in the least degree.
South of It lies the best part of the
Pottawatomie reseivation; east is the
best of the Sic ar.d Fox, and north is
the l e|t of the Iowa lunds. The hist
three tracts mentioned are to bo open-
ed to pettit ment. The position of
the reservations is such uh to make
the Kickapoo reservation the lieat
point lo make the race from, and the
reservation being directly eust from
Oklahoma City makes this city the
liest outfitting point.
If the Langston City company ha
the number of agents it claim to
have iu the southern slates there
danger of a movement of such pro-
portions being worked up among the
negro population as to seriously
tcrfere with the harvesting of the
ot the crops in many parts of the
south. Logan county and all the new
land east of Logan county will be
overwhelmed with a population en-
tirely dependent upon their labor for
immediate support. There will be no
work to do, aud the poor homeless
beings will have to make their wav
back south the best way they can.
So much for McCabe's efforts to ben-
efit his race, lie makes dupes of
them to his own gain. The negroes
can come here aud do well iu limited
numbers, but when any country is
filled entirely with a class dependent
upon daily labor for immediate sub-
sistence there is likely to result great
hardships. It is the worst thing pos-
siple for the uegroes already here to
have so much competition lor the lit'
tie labor to be performed here.
Thirty-two thousand dollars Is
the present county indebtedness. Af-
ter the republican county commision
era had bought complete records for
all the offices, furnished them, bought
jail cells, aud run the county nine
mouths, they left it with a debt of
#15,000. In five more mouths, after
the county is in running order, the
the debt is increased to $17,000. Be-
sides the #17,000 they have spent |2,-
000 received on liquor licenses. This
is doubtless tho democratic idea of
economv.
A Vacation in Now Mexico.
To get the full benefit of mountain
air and sunshine, it will amply reward
all travelers to extend their Colorado
summer trip to that charming resort
known as Las Vagas Hot Springs, six
miles from Las Vegas, on the A. T. &

Here may be found the very choicest
of New Mexico air, scenery, and sun-
shine; and a hotel, the Montezuma,
that is large, handsome, comfortable
and home like.
The trip to Las Vegas Hot Springs
can be made in connection with the
Colorado tour, at a yery small addi-
tional expense, by purchasing a round
trip excursion ticket to the Hot Springs
that includes a side ride to Pueblo,
Colorado Springs or Denver.
