The claim that Oklahoma ripnbli-
cans are opposed to statehood is one
of the most silly and senseless of deui
ocratlc falsehoods. It is probably
true of republican?, as it should be ol
all loyal citizens, that they are looking
to some plan of statehood that will
ultimately embrace the presentarea of
the two territories, und thereby form
one imperial state. But they are
unanimously for statehood at the ear-
liest moment practicable.
Reciprocity with Ura7.il has forced
that nation to accept our brcadatutN,
or lose a good market for their coffee,
sugar, tlyo stuffs and spices. Brazil
could get her breadstuffs from the Ar-
gentine Kopublic, which is much
nearer, but that country can not offer
Brazil tho market the United States
affords. The democratic plan would
have thrown this country open to the
introduction of Brazilian products,
but would hnvo left that country free
to choose any other market for the
purchase of their breadstutls. So
much for the wisdom of Blaine.

Considerable commotion is being
caused in the northwest by a recent
decision of a United States court that
ohildren born of Indian women who
bavo citizen husbands, follow the
status of tho father, and are citizens
of the United StatcB, and consequently
incompetent to hold land by virtue ol
tboir tribal relations. Much specula
tion is following this decision as to
the effect it will havo upon the lands
oast of Oklahoma just allotted. A
somewhat hasty examination of the
agreements with these tribes leads us
to believe that the matter is fully pro-
vided for anil lhl Xno children of
squaw men will be secure in their al
lotraents. This is certainly the case
with the Pottawatomles.

Mas. MAUV A. M ■ 1.1.III.
Frightened and wounded at his play,
My baby hoy sprung to my aide,
ud sought within iny sheltering arm*,
IIIk littlo trembling form to hide;
u vordi he ted t<> tall hli pain -
N< wordt my sympathy to erave, ^
Rut only one long, sweet embrace,
One loving, pleading look liegavo;
And yet throughout my mother-heart
There rushed a stream of tendcrcst care
To soothe the trembler on my hreast,
And all his little wrongs repslr.
A beggar onoe came to my door,
And not a single word ho Haiti,
Hut lifting his transparent hands,
They cried, ami only they, for bread
Ami Oh! tho hungry eager look
Within hln jark and mum ken eyes;
Though mute his lips, you oould not pass,
Such agonizing pleading by.
Alone with Ood, a sinner stood
llcueath the forest's deepest shade,
Oppressed with grlof, o'oroome with shame
He knew not what, or how he prayed.
Ho only knew that he was lost,—
He only knew that Christ oould save
Then east himself before the cross,
And mercy came and answer gave. *
Then what Is prayer? Not sanctioned words.
Nor liturgies how o'er sublime,
Tho' coming thro' a thousand years
And usod In every ago and clline.
Prayer is a loving child like trust,
That speeds us to our Father's side,
To pour our sorrows In his heart
And in bis sheltering arms to hide.
Prayer Is the piercing cry or want,
Tho hungry, anxious, eager oyo,
And needs no sound of human Hps,
To bear It to the throne on high.

The city council is making a vig-
orous attempt to make Oklahoma
Oity orderly and decent. The pros-
titutes' flues have been doubled, and
tho pollco judge has been ordered to
roinit no Sncs. This action of the
council meets tho approval of all de-
cent peoplo. The democratic party
organ, edited by Anarchist Spies, has
been urging(?) tho city council to take
this action, and of course the Gazette
will rejoice at tho success attending
its vigorous fight(?) on the disorders
of the city.
It is the opinion of several good
attorneys, who have been consulted
ou the subject, that it would not be
too late yet to get South Oklahoma
proved up by the probatejudge. It is
much less expensive than the trustee
plan. Somo effort should be mado to
induce tho secretary to withdraw the
trustees and permit it to be entered
by tho probate judge. Wo have no
reductions ou our trustees, as we bi-
llcvo them to be gentlemen in evsry
sense, to-'h., (MW h

Tilt re never can be a more favora-
ble season for opening the reserva
lions to settlement. Oklahoma has
abundance, and can supply all tho
peoplo who will go into tho now coun-
try, with food products for a year.
Tlioro will be plenty of work for those
who desire it, picking cotton, huskiug
corn, and making improvements.
The Indians have considerable money
and will make times much hotter as
long as the money lasts. Tho laud
should be thrown open as early iu the
fall as it is possible to got it ready.
The winters hero are mild and the
whole winter soason could bo passed
in preparation for early spring work.
IIousob are to he built, fences put up,
ami in somo portions the ground will
have to he cleared. All this can he
dono during tho winter season. If
the farmers in the new lands can be

first of March there need be no fear
of a repetition of the Oklahoma ex-
perience.
Tub Globe-Democrat special from

hands of the president, and asso-iated
press correspondents deny it. Con-
sidering the Globe's usual reliability
and its extreme friendlinosa toward

ablo that such a dispatch would be
printed if founded upon nothing more
tangible than rumor. It
well known for u year or more by vis-
itors at the capital that there has
been a good deal of friction in the in-
terior department. The secretary is
himself a methodical worker, and it
has alwavs irritated him when mat
