Socialism Defined
Socialism is defined by the National
Executive Committe of the Socialist
Party ns follows:
“Socialism is the modern move-
ment of tpe working class to abolish
the private ownership in the social
means of production and distribution
and to substitute therefor a system |
«f industry collectively owned and
democratically managed for the ben-
efit of the whole people.”
What the Dictionaries Say.
A theory of socitey that advocates
a more precise, orderly and harmou
ious arrangement of the social rela-
tions than that which has hitheto pre-
vailed—Webster’s Dictionary.
A science of reconstructing sooiet'.
•n an entirely nw basis by substitut-
ing the principle of association foi
that of competition in every bram li
o' industry — Worcester's Dictionary
° Tiie ethics of Socialism are closely
akin to the ethics of Christianity,
if not identical with them—Encyclo-
pedia Britannlca.
I iberty in its broadest sense can
only come when the producers ^
wealth are the masters of their own
destiny. __
The Socialists think it all well
enough to “give quiuine to persons liv-
ing in a swamp who are suffering
from malaria.- but tiie most impoi-
tant thing is to drain thejwamp.
The amount of property which the
people collectively own is at present
ioo small for them to give it the at
vent ion they should give it. *»t wi*
the people own the railroads, that will
not only stop the main graft on the
postal system, but the increas.d
amount of property will causethem
to take an increased interest in it and
all other things which they colectlvely
own and collective use.

If any Democrat or Republican asks
you who will do the dirty work under
Socialism tell him that, tf necessaiy.
we can use the capitalist politicians
until they die out. They are doing
the dirty work now. If you want to
see what tbe Republicans are doing
in this line read the investigations of
the grand juries in Illinois.
if you want a tine on the willing
ness of Democrats to help In any fil-
thy occupation, take notice of the fact
that they are doing all Jobs too rotten
for the Republican*. When the dirty
job of making llusse mayor of Chi-
cago had to be done, it was the lOem
ocrat, Roger Sullivan, who did the
work When Cannon became loo foul
to be supported by Republican votes
it was Democrats like Fitzgerald of
Me- York and McDermott of Chicago

shoulders until they could raise it
once more into the Speakers chair.
When Gortmer was buying his way in-
to the Senate and Republican votes
became too expent Ive, It was Demo-
crat members of the General Assem-
bly who grabbed at the bribes and
waded into the ditch of corruption
to lift Ixirlmer to his present position.
Rest easy It will not be hard to get
the dirty work done. Not so long
as there are old party politicians any-
how—Chicago Daily Socialist.
THEY DIE POOR.
One of the large insurance com-
panies advertises these poin'ed facts:
The vast majority of men die poor.
Two only, out of one hundred, suc-
ceed in business.
Ten to one, they support the sys-
tem which makes the vast, majority
die poor and which makes men pay
three dollars for one in effort to allay
the insecurities of modern capitalism
through the insurance game.

Comrade F. E. Yeutsch of Mt, Ver-

are hostile to the church because min-
isters sometimes say false and foolish
things against Socialism and Social-

The only hope of the Hasketllsed
democracy of Oklahoma lias to pro-
long itself in power and to send Has-
kell to the United States senate is
to disfranchise many thousand legal
voters of the state, aiming in most
part at the Indian and negro. In re
ality, through the application of all
party machinery iu the governors
hands, the intention is to disfranchise
many merchants, farmers, laborers
and professional men.
Thus far the following steps have
been taken to disfranchise through
the so-called "Grandfather Clause"
amendment to the state constitution:
FIRST—The initiative and refer-
endum laws were amended in Senate
Bill 126 to permit the printing of the
amendment on the ballot, in different
from tbe submission of all other ques-
tions in this. If the legislature sug-
gests an amendment and the same is

fore the constitutionality of tbe a

mission can be passed upon by tne
court . . . ,

The individual liberty that the de-
fenders of Capitalism say Socialism
will curtail is really the liberty of the
individuals of the ruling class to ex-
ploit the subject class.
So far as “half a loaf is concerned
it is mere political buncombe. The
capitalist politicians never offer the
workers more than a crumb and sel
