and that of the Northern Bap -
tists all tho rest of the country
It is the first time that the
annual convention of the north-
ern Baptists is held us far south
as Oklahoma City.
The selection of the place this
year is partly due*, to a desire on
tho part of many to effect
union of the two branches.
Both branches have been re-
presented in Oklahoma and
qrobubly tho greater part of
those who come to tho meeting
at Hot Springs this week will
stay over and attend the meet
ing at Oklahoma City next week
some thing may ho done in that
way as it will bo tho first time
that the two bodies come
close together.

THANKS
The Advance is this week in
receipt of several real comple
mentary letters from readers.
The one from Mr E. C. Gage,
of Pauls Valley is printed else-
where and we desire to say that
we feel complimented when we
are told that the Advance leaves
a good impression of our people
on the minds of straugers who
read it.
The other letter was a persona
letter to the editor from our olt
friend and long-time chum, Mr
Herbert Quick, the well known
author and magazine writer.
Speaking of the same effect on
the reader, Mr Quick says “Some
how. Kline, you have a knack
of drawing a picture of the New
Jerusalem and making people
believe it is Rocky, ” and goes
on to say, “ The Advance mus
have made that neighborhood a
gentler, kinder, neighborhood it
which to live, At least I’ll bet
it has.
It furnishes a nucleus around
which the latent decency of the
community can crystalize.
And it was always a mighty
decent community, I believe.
We want to tharik both Mr.
Gage and Mr Quick for their
good opinions of Rocky, though
we must say we had no id a that
our description of Rocky would
make anyone mistake it for the
New Jerusalem.
S ill, we wont take it back,

The stork and Doc Chumbley
played a double engagment this
week.
On Monday May 11th they left
a bright little girl at the home of
Mr and Mrs C. Conkins, west of
town and on the 13th they called
at the Diamond Farm and left
another bright girl baby at tho
home of Mr and Mrs John Shean
Judge Sheau, John’s always
truthful father, is authority for
the statement that for sometime
back John has been in the habit
of going behind the barn and
saying ” Papa, papa ” into the
ra’n barrel, just to hear how it
would sound.
