Soouerism.
K ditouTimbs-J ou kn al.
I desire again to ask your indulg-
ence in answering the Star's reply to
my critioism of the "wolf in sheep's
clothing. ' The question of sooner-
isin is not by any means the one sided
affair that it is indicated to be. A
howl was set up years ago by enter-
prising contestants against the sooner,
many of whom have Bince been pro-
ven to be sooners themselves. There
are classes of sooners who failed to
secure a claim, aud some who secured
a claim and sold out as booh as pos-
sible, and then turned traitor, aud by
furnishing information and corrobor-
ating contests, ruined many a good
man, who had a right to expect their
friendship. Some of these sooners
have boldly filed contests against
other sooners charging them with
soouerism aud have been the most
lusty howlors and denunciators of
sooners. Il is well known to the
writer and to many .hers of our
people if not to the editor of the Star
that there are creatures among us who
make - business of furnishing in
formation and witnesses to start con
tests, and prosecute them. Now we
desire to say that the policy of Sec-
retary Noble in regards to this
sooner question was most
unfortunate, it has brought to this
country a vast horde of unscrupulous
fortune seekers who care nothing for
the right of others, and who will
greedily gobble up the last farthing
of the unfortunate victims of a mis-
construed law, and will curse this
people for years to come with their
nefarious calling if something is not
done to put an end to It. In conclu
slon we wish to say to our honorable
editorial friend, that had It not been
for the efforts of the old boomers who
invaded this country and persisted in
their demands that it should be
opened to settlement, there Is no
doubt but today It would be the
herding grounds of the cattle baron

Death of Wn. K doubling.
Like a dark cloud shutting off the
sunlight, comes tho news of tbe death
of one of our leading townsmen, Wm
E. Gouldlrg, of North Rroadway.
We have few of the particulars. All
we know is that he arose early, as
was his habit, and after dressing
complained of feeling badly and went
and laid down again. When break-
fast was ready they went to call liim
—he was dead. To his people "the
news of his death comes like the fall
of the great oak in the forest."
Wm. Goulding was an Englishman.
He received his religious training un-
der the tutorship of Bishop Words-
worth, bishop of Lincoln, was an
earnest communicant of the church,
and those who will miss him more;
than the rest outside of his family j
wiU be the members of St. Paul's
church In this city.
Mr. Goulding was a conslstant
christian, a kind and affectionate
husband and father. He leaves a large
family cf both sons and daughters,
besides a host of friends to mourn his
loss. Ills age was about 70 years.
The funeral services will take place
at St. Paul's church. The friends
and acquaintances are kindly invited
to attend.
