Obituary Uelajed
Oklahoma Citv, Sept. 28.—On
the L'tith day of June 1891 at Okla-
homa City, there departed tb:s life
after a pxiuful and lingering illness
of nine weeks, Mrs. Mattie MeKee,
wife of John Edward McKee.
Mattie E. Toxlin was born in Pen-
dleton county Kentucky, September
22nd 1859 in wuich county she paased
nearly all of her life until coming to
this country.
In the year 1891, she wss married
to Mr. John Edward McKee who al
so was born and reared in the same
county. Soon after their marriage
and upon tbe same day both sbe and
her husband joined the Methodist
church South. Leaving their old
home ai d friends in Kentucky they
came to this territory nearly four
years ago to bui!d for themselves a
home in the new country.
Quietly taking up the duties that
came to them tbey bravely fought the
battle of life together until the inter-
ruption came which caused tbe wife
and mother to lie down upon what
proved lo be htr dying bed. Of that
grim visitor who hung expectant
over her couch for so many weeks
she showed not the least fear. She
had been one of the quiet kind giving
her life to the care of her family, and
not given to soying much about her
religious feelings, but during this
final illness she showed forth clearly
the fruit which proved the growth of
a strong inner christian l fe, her mind
continued clear until a short time be-
fore release came. She spoke fre-
qnently and with perfect calmness of
her approaching end always basing
her hope beyond in her hope in the
Savior. While she expressed herself
so clenrly as having no fear of death
she did express a regret at leaving
her husband and family of little chil-
dren so fa: from their relatives.
However, she .said 1 am in the hands
of my Savior, if he decides to take
me I am ready to go. The decision
soon came and she passed quietly
over to that better land, there to join
hands with ail the redeemed ones,
and be with the loving Savior in
whom she trusted so implicitly. Tbe
writer was present during the last
trying hours and can never forget
her face and the serenity with which
she looked over into the other world.
After a short and appropriate ser-
vice at the home the body was laid
away to rest in the Fairiawn ceme
tery near the city. She leaves be-
hind to mourn her loss many friends
a loving husband and four children
the youngest of which is only three
years old. D. C. T.
