Nearly all the old Oklahoma cast s
in the Muskogee court have been
stricken from the docket.
It is a mighty line thing these days
to have a fixed salary, especially
whon you have nothing to do but sit
on your hunkers and draw it. \\ ho
wouldn't be mayor, city clerk or city
attorney and draw all the way irom
$50 to $100 per month.

1 been untiring in ins endeavors to ad-
vance the cause of education in this
county and has the full sympathy and
hearty co-operat ion of every friend of
education in the county. Every su-
perintendent in the territory had to
contend with a chaotic condition in
educational affairs w hen they entered
upon the discharge of their duties,
had to build from the ground up and
wo doubt if anyone could have made
a better record than Mr. Bauguess
has done. The first examination of
teachers was held after all the teachers
for the city schools had been em-
ployed and were teaching, and a strict
adherence to the letter of the law
would have caused an agitation, a dis-
ruption aud a very serious hindrance
to the cause in this city, for it would
have resulted in cutting down in the
grade of several others—some very
prominent. It was thought best by
Mr. Bauguess and the board of exam-
iners and their advisers that in the
interest of harmony, justice should
bo tempered with mercy, and those
employed bo allowed certificates.
The wisdom of this policy no one who
knows anything of the facts can deny,
and instead of being so grossly abused
Mr. Bauguess should be commended
for his sense. One thing is certain, i.
c. The attention of the public from
extravagance of the board and tho fav-
oritism and mismanagement shown
cannot be shifted from the directors
to Mr. Bauguess by such screeds from
the organ of the board.
