BILLIONS WITHOUT TAXATION.
(By Hon. Scott Ferris)
L.oans adequately secured by real
tate are always, everywhere, and
y everybody considered first-class

The United States has title in fee
to 165,000,000 acres of forest or tim
bered lands. The richest timber
baron in all the world may own
many thousand acres of forest land,
but think how many Liberty Loan
'fonds he could purchase if he owne.l
165,000,000 acres.
Title to 5.000.000 acres of oil lands
rests in the federal government. Aj
ngle well on a single acre may pro
uce enough oil to make a dozen mil
lionaires. Wells on 5,000.000 acres'
would enable the government to fi-
nance the whole war many times.

standing us enduring monuments to
the solidarity of the United States.
In the past, under the homestead
laws of a most liberal government,
approximately 400,000,000 acres «>f
land have been given away. Under
this generous policy thousands of
families., millions of our population,
have been able to acquire homes.
The value of the property thus given
by the American government to its
citizens amounts to many billions of
dollars more than the government
needs to carry the war to a victorious
conclusion.
The Liberty Ixmn has been do.
scribed as the premier security of
the world. Certainly no loan is more
amply secured, und the honor of the
American nation makes the moral se-
curity us good as the material.
