Oklahoma City, Sept. 7. Registra-
tion in sixty-two of the seventy-seven
counties of the state, as officially re-
ported to the state erection board, is
as follows democratic 123,626; re-
publican 79.912 socialist 44,220.
This indicates that the democrats
have almost a clear majority over
both the other parties in this state,
assuming that the fifteen counties
unreported are approximately divid-
ed as those that are in. Tulsa county

special to News-Herald*
Oklahoma City, Sept. 7.—Consider-
able interest has resulted in several
counties of Oklahoma over the im-
pression that has gained circulation
that the county engineer under the
road law may not be the county sur-
veyor. Attorney General Freeling in
an opinion for one of the counties has
held that the county engineer, as
created in the highway law. is not an
officer, and consequently he may hold
that place while occupying the office
of county surveyor. This was the in-
tention of the legislature in the or-
iginal highway law as expressly set
forth The amended law is not so
specific.
The ruling by the attorney general
w ill result in economics for the coun-
tries that are employing the county
surveyor as county engineer.
CHICKEN NOTRE.
The fall rains have started the
gardens growing again, and the chick-
ens running at large have again be-
come a nuisance. Attention is called
to the fact that it is still contrary to
the city ordinances to allow chickens
to run at large, and the ordinance
will be strictly enforced.

Instead of the thousands of sickly,

HASTEN REPLY ON
BLA< hi. 1ST NOTE.
By Vssoclated Press.
London, Sept. 7.—Officials of the
British foreign office have not yet
had time to consider •the general rev-
enue bill as affecting the various
blockade activities but news of the
passage of the bill through the Unit-
ed States senate last night excited
considerable interest.
An official of the foreign office
said today that any statement as to
the attitude of the British govern-
ment must await the return of
Lord Rober Cecil, minister of war
trade. It is expected that one result
of the action of congress will be to
hasten a reply to the Washington pro-
test against the British blacklist.
Big guns, invincible batallions of
fighting men led by Von Hindenburg,
all in action against the Russians,
are shown in the Durborough Battle
films, "On the Firing Line With the
