XJCW YORK. Dec. 13.—<IPV—
Have you noticed that women
have not only gone wooly but
shaggy as well this winter? The
head of the coat department of
one of the most Important spe-
cialty shops stated recently that
it wa* quite Impossible to sell
anything but rough woolens In
their more exclusive model*.
From tbe fabric standpoint,
rough woolen* are now an old
story, so old, daing hark about
three years, for It was just about
three year* ago that the French
and British woolen maker* began
showing groups of rough woolens,
generally coatings. And since this
winter ha* seen such overwhelm-
ing Interest expressed In wool
epongw- and thlck-and-thln yarn
hopsackings, nubbed monotones
and curled yarns In endless var-
iety, and the £arly reports of
high stlye mid-season costs of
are not followed closely: I brilliant colors proves that these
are carrying on, It is now be-
coming an old story from the
costume viewpoint. But from the
customer angle it is new—brand
new. And this augurs well for
the future of rough woolens.
The early costume collections,
too, suggest that woolens are get-
ting rougher and rougher. A fash-
IrA authority, reviewing a mid-
season and retort coat collection
commented recently on the ex-
treme roughness of the surfaces,
adding that It didn't seem, pos-
sible that they could get any
rougher—the end must certainly
have been reached. These . are
shown in T>Hllt£nt colors, or In
the corals, bonnon pink*, pale
blues, delicate water green* and
creamy tone* *o strong in favor
at tbe moment, and 44 mpst be
admitted that the rough surface
benefits greatly by such hues.
