at Adamson’s grove six miles south of
Choctaw, on August 16th. Our Sunday j

Mis. C. T. Johnson and daughter,
Miss Lola were visiting iu Choctaw
last week. Mrs. Johnson returned to
Oklahoma City Friday. Miss Lola is
still enjoying the pleasures of farm life
with her father Mr. G. T. Johnson.
Base Ball—Saturday witnessed an-
other trial of skill between the Kan-
san and Populist base ball clubs. The
game was played on lhe ball ground
adjoining town, and resulted iu a vict-

Mr. II E. Athy, and family arrived
from Ulysses Kan’s Friday Ho began
the election of a building 20x40 Tues-
day, and will open up with a complete
stock of drugs as soon a* the building
is completed. He will also erect a

Many strangers have visited Choc-
taw in the last few weeks. The coun-
try is full of persons seeking new lo-
cations and a refuge from hard times.
The bruit of Oklahoma’s wouderfull
resources has gone abroad, and this
is the result. In coming to this part
of the country they conic to the right
place. Here is where the big wheat
crops are grown ami the corn and
oats aud the cotton, and the line ap-
ples and peaches and the big water-
uiellons. The best part of even thing
is found in the black jacks. Oklahoma
is the banner county and Choctaw
City is in the best part of it

mittee was held yesterday and it was

Hie bill passed the Senate today
extending lime of final proof and pay-
ment on lands claimed under the pub-
lic lands law. A similar bill passed
the house some time ago but it pns>c<l
the senate today with an amendment
The house bill provides that the time
for making final proof and payment
for all lands located under the home-
stead aud desert laws of the United
States be extended for the period of
one year from the time when proof
ami payment would become Hue under
existing law-.
To this the senate added an amend-
ment providing that the time of ma-
king final pay men l on entries under
the pre-emption act shall bo exteuded
for one year from the date when tha
same become* due iu ail cases where
pre-emption entrymeu are unable to
make final payments from causes
which they cannot control- evidence
of such inability to be subject to tho
regulations of the secretary of the in-
terior,
