Hamburger Time at Oil Made
Easy With Automatic Machine
NORMAN, July 22—iSpeciall—
What do you do when hambur-
gers are on the menu and hun-
dreds of hungry students are de-
manding more of America’s fa-
vorite sandwich?
On the verge of despair, cooks
at The University of Oklahoma's
Quadrangle and Cross Center
cafeterias have tried to solve the
problem by starting to work early.
But by noon their aching arms
told them that hand labor was no
solution.
From now on there’ll be a steady
stream of mass-produced, uni-
formly luscious hamburgers for
hungry OU students. Progress has
arrived in the form of an auto-
matic hamburger making ma-
chine; Yes. automatic, except for
tl.e cooking.
In OU’s commissary the new
Hollymatic machine occupies a
place of honor. Butchers O. A.
Leffler, Orla Branan. and Fred
Scott will tell you with pride that
it will turn out 30 hamburgers a
minute.
Fred Scott says he really doesn’t
know how much it will produce.
He has kept it sort of throttled
back until now except for that
one minute test.
Here’s what happens. The meat
goes in a hopper at the top. Then

it is forced out so a small die can
snap down and give It the tra-
ditional round shape. A piece of
waxed paper is thrust beneath the
meat, and there she sits: all shap-
ed. patted, ready to sizzle on the
griddle.
The Hollymatic Is nearly as
versatile as a sewing machine. It
has attachments. One of them
produces the luxury-sized ham-
burger. Another die is shaped like
a pork chop, and still another
looks like a steak. Scott says no
attempt is made to deceive folks
with those pork chop and steak
dies, but It’s just possible that a
mora expensive shape will make
ground meat taste better.
The Hollymatic cost more than
$600 and requires two men to
operate It efficiently. Otherwise,
the hamburgers start piling up.
Hamburger day at the cafeterias
won’t be such an ordeal these
days for OU cooks. Hundreds of
frozen, perfectly shaped hambur-
gers are on file and waiting in
the commissary cold storage
vault.
Dolores Del Rio Holds Her Looks Despite Years
KING WHISKERS-Postman
William Welch, 32, of Kewanee,
111., appears very proud of
his bushy beard which won
him the title, “King of the
Kewanee Centennial." Accord-
ing to the jury of three women,
Bill had the handsomest whisk-
ers among the 200 contestants.
EXICO CITY, July 22— (U.fD —
Guessing the age of ageless Dolores
Del Rio is a favorite pastime in this
city, especially since everyone seems
to come up with a different answer.
The beautiful dark-haired ac-
tress, who was making pictures in
Hollywood 29 years ago, isn’t anx-
ious to solve the dilemma.
"I am as old as I look," she said
smiling. "Long ago, I tried hard to
forget the date. I think that I have
now forgotten. How old do you
think I look, anyway?"
To look at her, you'd never guess
she was a Hollywood contemporary
of Blanche Sweet and other for-
gotten stars. Neither time nor
tropical sun has been able to put
a line on her unblemished skin or
mar the symmetry of her body.
"I do not have a secret formula,"
she said. "I do not diet very much
and I do not exercise unduly.
Therefore, I am as old as I should
be."
Take Your Choice
“Old as I should be" is anybody's
guess.

"HOME OF BETTER VALUES1
birthdate at nil, report she was
born Aug. 3, 1909, in the northern
Mexican state of Durango. Yet
there are many who are willing to
wager their last peso that she’s
well past the 50 mark.
And the records of one of Mex-
ico city, largest newspapers, "El
Universal," list the controversial
date as Aug. 3, 1905.
One eminent writer speculated
recently that Mexico's number one
film actress may be well past 60!
Not long ago, Miss Del Rio ap-
peared at an elegant diplomatic
ball dressed in a black lace eye-
ing gown, transparent enough to
put her In competition with Mar-
lene Dietrich. Pop-eyed diplomats
weren’t sure whether to call the
police or applaud enthusiastically.
A Delores Del Rio picture still Is
a "must" for the majority of Mex-
ican film fans. She still is this
country’s idol.
Just when she will quit the
screen, nobody knows. No Mexican
film producer worth his salt would
even suggest such a thing, since
her pictures make money. Be-
sides. they feel it’s up to her to
decide.
