Ireland Resents
Foreign Influx
DUBLIN, Jufte 15 — <U» — Irish
politicians fear a “check book in-
vasion" of Ireland.
"Invaders" are wealthy foreign-
ers who bought large properties
In Ireland since the war, either
living here to enjoy the nation's
non-austerity, or leasing them and
living abroad.
Most of them are British, al-
though the last major sale was
when a fine old County Meath
mansion and estate went to Prince
Aly Khan.
Most of the Inhabitants of near-
by Batterstown village were main-
ly Interested to know If the prince
would bring his glamorous wife
to the manor, but others won-
dered If its 389 rich acres would
He unworked and useless.
Senator Seamus OTarrel charged
that the foreign buyers "came In
here to accomplish reconquest
with a check book. This Is more
dangerous than the former con-
quest by fire and sword."
He declared that the landless
Irish peasant and the “unecono-
mic holders" had more right to
consideration In the allocation of
land than foreigners.
